Zara
I was acutely aware that his lips were only inches from mine. Every time Alpha Kane touched me, he never kissed me in reality. Once he kissed me, but that was artificial. It seemed a little insulting and impersonal, but it only made me want him more.
I knew what he wanted, but would I say it? Was it true?
“Because I’m yours,” I breathed out, and I realized it was true.
He’d claimed me from the moment we met, without ever telling me. The moment I was late for training for the first time, I became his.
“Good girl.” Alpha Kane’s anger subsided, and his gaze even softened slightly.
“I will spare your friends.” Alpha Kane turned and headed back to his liquor. “They will not be punished for your recklessness p>
“Thank you.” I nodded sincerely, grateful that my friends wouldn’t have to suffer.
“Find another way to thank me.” Alpha Kane’s voice was emotionless, but his eyes gleamed mischievously. I wanted to snort and roll my eyes, but my mind was elsewhere. I was sure Ryan and Dad had heard the news. They were probably out of their minds with worry.
Dad would probably kill me and then give me one of those disapproving looks that nearly broke my heart. I hated how Alpha Kane always left me wanting more, but this time I had other things to take care of.
I grabbed my jeans, which were crumpled on the floor, and pulled them on. Just as I wrapped my hand around the bedroom door, Alpha Kane stopped me.
His large hand gripped my wrist tightly.
“Where are you going?” Alpha Kane asked, his caramel eyes burning into mine.
“I need to see Dad and my brother.” I raised an eyebrow at him, practically daring him to refuse. “They must be terribly worried p>
“You’re not leaving.” Alpha Kane shook his head, pulling me away from the door.
“What?” the word escaped my lips in an irritated squeak. “Goddess p>
“You’re not leaving, Zara,” Alpha Kane muttered, cupping my face tightly. “I told you last night. You’ll be lucky if I ever let you go again p>
Alpha Kane didn’t let go, which irritated me to no end. He was a man of his word and wouldn’t let me stray more than five feet from him.
I tried to run down the hallway, but a moment later I was dragged back. Alpha Kane was angry, but I decided the look on his face justified it.
Being good was much harder than I thought.
“As much as I loved being locked up with him, he can’t keep us here forever.” Nova rolled her eyes, hating being watched.
So we made a mistake, but we also learned something from that terrible experience. Something had happened to Ryan. Marcus could have lied, saying what he needed to catch me off guard.
But could I let my brother’s life depend on a potential lie? No, I had to treat it as if he was telling the truth. Alpha Kane led me down the hallway to the top of the stairs. He stopped abruptly, causing me to collide with his muscular back and nearly fall to the floor.
“Next time, a little warning,” I grumbled, trying to stay on my feet.
“Don’t be late for the office,” that idiot Alpha ordered.
A few hours later, I headed to the office with the determination of a woman with a grudge against her boss.
After brewing Alpha Kane’s morning coffee and saying a morning prayer over it, asking that it be as black as the darkest night and as bitter as water flowing from a shrinking bitter gourd, I took the coffee to Alpha Kane and pressed the logo on his door.
Permission it was quickly received, so I swung the door open and entered, carrying Alpha’s coffee.
“The sun must have been on that day they rose from the west,” Nova muttered.
The perpetually sullen Alpha Kane smiled, leaning against his bar, where his entire expensive collection was neatly arranged behind glass display cases.
Pouring himself a brandy from a square decanter, Alpha Kane looked like he’d stepped out of a fashion magazine. In impeccably polished Oxford shoes, pressed trousers, and a tight navy blue shirt with the top buttons undone.
The golden-yellow liquid swirled in the glass.
“Seriously? Alpha Kane was planning to start his day with Brandy.” Nova rolled her eyes.
“Good morning! Your coffee?” I phrased it more as a question.
“Good morning, put it on my desk,” came Alpha Kane’s heavy voice, his eyes gleaming mischievously. Something was going on in his head.
Alpha Kane slowly waved the glass between his index finger and thumb, shoving his left hand into his pocket, and strode toward me on his graceful legs.
I looked at him, rather shamelessly.
A few steps away, Alpha Kane stopped and asked, his lips slightly upturned. But his words didn’t just stun me:
“So you had an orgasm? Did thinking about me help p>
“What the hell was he talking about?” I rolled my eyes.
“What orgasm?” Nova inquired.
“And that teasing smile of Alpha’s? It was completely unnatural.” I bet, Nova.
“What?” “I asked, rather shocked, clutching my work tablet. My brows furrowed in irritation.
“Voice memo. It seems you missed me. Maybe you’re expecting too much from that kiss and our just touching.” Alpha Kane’s hand moved rhythmically, causing the liquid in the glass to swirl like a small whirlpool.
Alpha’s eyes were swirling with a completely different, teasing swirl.
“What’s that note in your voice?” Nova asked, shocked.
“Really?” I obeyed Nova.
“Oh my God! What the hell are you doing, Zara?” Nova screamed.
“Of course, I read it. I didn’t even check his messages out of irritation, and I had no idea I’d checked them, so it was the right decision to pretend I didn’t notice.” I rolled my eyes.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about, and I just want to get it all out there. If you think I fell in love with you just because you, touching me I paused and smiled mockingly. My gaze slid slowly over his model figure before I lied through my teeth.
“You’re not my type p>
“What are you talking about, Zara?” Nova asked, surprised. “Don’t piss Alpha off p>
“Okay. Is he having sex with us? How can I shut my big mouth p>
“Alpha was already mad at us for our adventures last night,” Nova replied politely.
That dark smirk on Alpha’s face should have disappeared, but no, it fucking widened.
This wolf is up to no good today. Alpha blinked slightly before speaking in a quiet but mysterious voice. It was impossible to resist, and I felt my legs tighten.
“I’m everyone’s type, Zara. If I wanted, I could have a whole harem p>
Alpha Kane pulled his hand out of his pocket and pulled out his phone. He swiped his finger across it, then touched the screen again, and it came to life.
