I was far from drunk, but the alcohol made me feel much lighter. Maybe it wasn’t just because I hadn’t eaten in over five hours.

Kane stood next to me and the stranger, his impassive gaze radiating impatience.
“Alpha?” he replied, and we pulled away.
Stranger’s impassive expression looked a little tense as he turned to Alpha.
“Can I borrow Zara for a minute?” Alpha Kane’s eyes were focused solely on him; he didn’t even glance in my direction.
It was clear Alpha hadn’t asked. His statement hung in the air like a challenge. He was practically daring him to say no.
“Sure, Alpha,” Stranger nodded, smiling tightly before stepping back.
I could feel the guilt twisting in my alcohol-filled stomach.
“It was your idea,” Nova frowned. “I shouldn’t feel guilty p>
Nova was right, but I couldn’t help but feel sorry for me.
“I’ll see you later.” I forced a carefree smile and waved at stranger one last time.
I turned my attention back to Alpha Kane, resisting the urge to glance at him.
“Alpha Sterling is going to dance with me?” I feigned shock. “I would never mistake you for a dancer p>
“No,” Alpha Kane growled, the honeyed color of his gaze quickly swallowed by the darkness.
“Then it’ll be a little awkward.” I shrugged, swaying to the music. “Thoughtful and standing still while dancing p>
While I was not drunk, the copious amounts of alcohol I’d consumed couldn’t curb my loud mouth. Irritation and anger flashed in Alpha Kane’s eyes.
“I’m not thoughtful,” Alpha Kane snapped, running a hand through his tousled hair.
The simple action mesmerized me, and I almost started to drool. This was not the answer he was expecting.
His rough hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me off the dance floor.
“You know, I don’t understand why you had to drag me off the dance floor,” I remarked with a hint of seriousness.
“Shut up, Zara,” Alpha Kane growled, looking a lot more annoyed today.
While I saw no point in Kane dragging me away, Nova was positively brimming with arousal.
Kane dragged me to the side door I’d entered through earlier and pulled me outside. The fresh air felt refreshing on my hot skin, and I couldn’t help but take a few deep breaths.
