Chapter 21

The next few days were extremely exciting, and I was candid. Miranda was on a two-day vacation, which made things even worse.

This was the third time I’d carried Alpha Kane’s coffee to his office. The walk from the kitchen to Alpha Kane’s office felt like a walk in the coffee of shame, brewed in a caffeinated slider.

The first one wasn’t black enough.

The second one wasn’t scalding hot enough to burn Alpha Kane’s damn tongue.

“Please! Goddess, let this burn Alpha’s entire mouth,” I begged, lifting my head to the concrete ceiling.

The urge to spit on Alpha Kane was real, and it took all my control not to.

Entering Alpha’s office, I walked confidently toward his heavy black desk.

Cold Alpha wore a shirt that matched his honey eyes. Jet black pants hugged his slender thighs as Alpha stood with his palms pressed to the polished surface. A few messy hairs from his wrinkled forehead waved, his eyes focused on the open file in front of him.

“The Port Mafia is getting out of control. I’m going to put them in their place.” Alpha Kane’s teeth clenched, making his jaw feel taut like a wire ready to snap.

One of the directors was also in the office today, and they seemed to be discussing an issue of a misplaced delivery.

Ranold’s empty coffee cup was lying next to him. He had taken it from me when I brought them coffee first and drank it without complaint. He had even thanked me, unlike that brooding titan of power I called boss.

“Sir! Your coffee,” I said with as much false sweetness as I could muster, and set the cup down in front of him. Long streams rose like snakes.

Without looking at me or the coffee, Alpha Kane handed me the paper I had printed for him earlier and ordered.

“There’s a comma mistake; fix it and bring it back to me p>

I opened my mouth to complain, seriously?

“Who cares about that stupid comma?” Nova smirked.

But as soon as Alpha’s irritated eyes found mine, I closed my mouth. It seemed like a bad time.

“Of course, sir!” Taking the paper from Alpha Kane, I turned around and squeezed it so hard it crumpled.

I walked back to my office, muttering to myself.

Plopping down on a chair, I read the document, looking for a tiny mistake. Spotting one, I hoped it was the comma Alpha Kane was talking about. I sat down and used my laptop to fix the mistake, printing the document again.

Taking it off the printer, I took in the fresh smell of paper; it was refreshing, and for a second, I forgot about the sour face of the asshole. I was now more careful when I got punished by Alpha Kane in the pack.

After I had set my clothes, I pressed the rose and waited for permission to reenter.

Alpha Kane’s whiskey-soaked voice rang out, and I felt a slight shiver run down my spine.

Opening the door, I walked in and greeted. I saw Alpha Kane standing facing the window. His hands were deep in his pants pockets, and his shirt was pulled tight over his back muscles. Alpha Kane seemed like a beautiful deity, watching over the city he owned.

“Sir! I fixed it,” I called out, keeping my distance. You never know when his mood might get even worse.

“Leave it on the table and don’t let anyone enter my office. I need some time alone,” Alpha Kane’s hoarse voice was not condescending, but there was a hint of hidden sadness in it.

I did as Alpha wanted and quietly left the office, hoping that the rest of the day would pass in one breath. But a girl can only dream of this.

Not even half an hour had passed when a stunning human girl jumped out of the elevator. Her makeup, jewelry, outfit, and hair were a work of art. She moved easily, her curvy figure swaying with each step.

I quickly left the office and caught her before she could head to Alpha Kane’s office.

“Excuse me! Madam. Who are you? You can’t go in there. Mr. Sterling is not seeing anyone right now p>

Her pale blue eyes flashed in my direction, carrying a mixture of irritation and pride.

“And who the hell are you? Do you have any idea who I am?” she said in a controlled voice, but I could feel the pomposity and irritation embedded in it.

I folded my hands in front of me respectfully and answered in my calmest voice.

“I’m sure it’s someone important, but I can’t allow you to enter the office. If you could tell me your name, I could ask p>

She didn’t let me finish and started moving again.

“To hell with it, I can see you’re stopping me. Where is that lazy Miranda p>

And there was a sense of entitlement; now she was challenging me. So I stood in front of her, spread my arms, and gave her a fake smile.

“Get away, fat girl.” She tried to push me away with one hand while dialing what I assumed was Alpha Kane’s number on her smartphone with the other.

“Fat girl Nova smirked.

“Rude is good, but bullying is… A big fat ~NO~,” Nova suggested.

That was her biggest mistake, insulting me with my wolf.

I grabbed her approaching hand and twisted it just a bit to bend it and hold it in place. She screamed into the phone like a wounded wolf.

“Kane, help, this fat militia is killing me p>

I have never heard a phrase worse than “Fat Militia,” and believe me, I have heard it a lot.

The door burst open, and Alpha Kane appeared like a thunderstorm, his honey eyes exploding with shock.

I could have sworn Alpha Kane relaxed slightly, enjoying the moment as I bent the woman forward. If I had my way, I could have broken her arm.

Alpha Kane took a deep breath and finally turned to me, putting on a passive face. But I did not miss the hint of amusement that finally flickered in his eyes.

“Let her go, Zara p>

“She tried to attack me,” she complained to Alpha Kane.

“Despite my efforts to stop her, she was forcibly entering your office, even though I told her repeatedly that you had no visitors. I was just doing my job,” I informed Alpha Kane, releasing the screaming woman and pushing her forward.

She crawled away from me as if I were Krypton and she was Superman. Oh, the poor human girl.
