Chapter 1222
“How is everything in Severia? Are you ready for the competition? Are the other students being nice to you? Nobody is giving you a hard time, right p>
The barrage of motherly affection poured through the speaker.
Serena stood with one hand tucked casually into her pocket, surrounded by pools of blood and broken bodies, her voice perfectly calm and soothing. “Everything’s great. Nobody is giving me a hard time, and the other competitors are fine p>
“How is the food?” Catherine fretted. “If you don’t like the local cuisine, just have Julian take you to a nice Elyndorian restaurant. Or I can fly a private chef out there for you! Do you have enough money? If you need more, you have to tell me, don’t try to save a dime p>
The Dragon-Thorn operatives exchanged bewildered glances.
They stared at the terrifying ghost who had just violently dismantled an army of Augments, snapped a man’s limbs like twigs, and ground their legendary captain into the pavement, now standing there being a perfectly obedient daughter.
The whiplash was staggering.
Serena didn’t miss a beat. “I have plenty of money, and the food is good. You don’t need to worry p>
Catherine continued to ramble, her voice thick with longing and worry.
“Maybe your father, your grandfather, and I should just book a flight right now and come cheer for you in person p>
Catherine’s excitement peaked. “Julian is already in Severia anyway, it would be a perfect family vacation p>
Listening to the endless stream of affection, the icy edge in Serena’s eyes melted into something remarkably soft. Even her tone grew gentle. “You guys don’t need to fly all the way out here. The travel is exhausting, and it wouldn’t be good for Grandpa’s health p>
“The competition is being broadcast globally, so you can watch it from home. I’ll be back as soon as it’s over p>
“Fine Catherine sighed, clearly disappointed she hadn’t jumped on a plane the day before.
After a few more questions, Catherine paused, sensing something slightly off. “Where are you right now? It should be around nine at night over there, right? Are you heading to bed? Why is it so quiet p>
Serena casually glanced around at the groaning operatives and the absolute massacre on the floor, her face perfectly stoic. “I’m just out grabbing a coffee. I’ll be heading back to the hotel soon p>
The Dragon-Thorn operatives stared in disbelief.
Who the hell wanders into a classified subterranean bunker to buy coffee and casually slaughters an Obsidian Augment hit squad along the way p>
Catherine chuckled warmly. “Don’t stay out too late, honey. Drink your coffee and head straight back it’s not safe for a girl to be out alone al
night in a foreign country p>

“I know,” Serena replied sweetly.
Missing her daughter terribly, Catherine couldn’t help but make exaggerated kissing noises into the phone. “Love you, sweetie. Sleep tight p>
Serena paused for half a second. Maintaining a perfectly emotionless, stone cold expression she replied in the most angelic, obedient voice imaginable.
“Love you too, Mom. Goodnight p>
She hung up.
Looking up, she swept an indifferent glance over the men.
Drake and his entire squad were looking at her as if she had sprouted a second head.
They were genuinely starting to wonder if the blood loss was making them hallucinate.
The contrast.
The contrast was just too insane.
The same girl who had viciously crippled a Severian executive,
effortlessly slaughtered a dozel net monsters, and huet
overpowered their captain.
Had just stood there with a gorgeous, icy expression, telling her mother ‘Love you
too’ in the sweetest voice they had ever heard p>
How was a man supposed to process that?
The battle-hardened veterans felt their brains collectively short-circuit.
