Chapter 1083
Annabel shook her head. “Let’s talk about it when we get back.” She felt upset, but she knew she shouldn’t lose her temper right then.
When they arrived home, Annabel and Rupert hung up their coats and settled in. Annabel sat on the couch and took a sip of water.
Rupert walked over and, with an easy familiarity, wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Smiling, he asked, “So, now that we’re home, what’s bothering you?”
Annabel hesitated. She set her glass down and met his gaze. “I think… I think Michelle has a thing for you.”
Rupert frowned, confused. “What are you talking about?”
He couldn’t understand why Annabel had suddenly brought this up. He had never paid any attention to Michelle before.
“What makes you think she likes me?”
Annabel hadn’t expected him to ask that, but she trusted her intuition. Something about Michelle’s behavior had caught her attention.
“Didn’t you notice how Michelle’s expression changed after I introduced you as my fiancé? Be honest. Do you have feelings for her?”
Annabel’s uncharacteristic reaction caught Rupert off guard. She was usually composed and steady around him. He couldn’t help laughing softly, tenderness flickering in his eyes.
“What’s going on in that head of yours, my love?” he asked gently, affectionately rubbing the tip of her nose.
Annabel sat up and slipped out of his embrace, fixing him with a stern look. Even as she remained upset, she knew deep down Rupert wouldn’t cheat on her.
“I’ve been paying attention to you all the time. How could I have time to care about other women? Besides, you know it’s the first time I met her today. We only exchanged a few words, and you were there too, right?” Rupert coaxed.
Annabel slipped out from under Rupert’s arm, sat upright, and studied him with a measured look. She could tell he was telling the truth. His answer satisfied her.

“Fine. I’ll believe you this time. But don’t even think about seeing her behind my back. Is that clear?”
Rupert chuckled and shook his head in disbelief. He lifted both hands in surrender and said, “I’m innocent. You’re the only woman I think about. I don’t even remember what Michelle looks like anymore. I promise I won’t contact her, okay?”
Annabel couldn’t help laughing at that, and the two of them spent the rest of the day playfully teasing each other.
The next morning, Annabel was up early, ready to head out by eight o’clock. When Rupert walked out of the bedroom, he was surprised to find her already in the living room.
“Good morning. Why did you wake up so early today? I thought you’d want to stay in bed a little longer,” Rupert said.
“I have plans to meet someone today,” Annabel replied, shaking her head as she locked her phone screen. She shrugged and explained, “It’s been a while since I visited the design studio Anika and I started. Even though I asked Anika’s assistant to take care of it, I still want to make sure everything is going well. Besides, there are professional materials there, and I might be able to improve my design with them. You stay home and wait for me, alright?”
