They came at her one after another. Annabel didn’t have time to think—she could only react on instinct, striking back as hard and as fast as she could.

Time dragged on, and Annabel’s strength began to drain.
Her wrists were going numb from the relentless strain of gripping and swinging the pipe, but she refused to let go. She kept attacking—one blow after another—forcing herself to stay upright.
She had to carve a way through them. She had to get out of the alley.
She tightened her grip, swung the pipe, and smashed it into the man in front of her. Bone cracked. He shrieked, the sound slicing through the rain-soaked air.

He drove to the hospital immediately. Yet when he opened the door to his grandfather’s room, Annabel wasn’t there.
Only Jaxen was inside, keeping watch over Bruce.
