“You hit me because of him?” Rupert stared at her, disbelief and frustration twisting his features.
After a brief, suffocating silence, he turned and strode away without another word.
Annabel’s chest felt tight as she watched him leave, but she didn’t stop him. Rupert’s jealousy was completely misplaced right now, and he needed time to cool off.
When Rupert returned to Water Moon Community, his mood was heavy. Candace was waiting on the sofa, watching TV. The moment she saw him, she put on a bright smile.
“Ron, where have you been today?” she asked.
Rupert barely acknowledged her. He only glanced at her before looking away, his mind still tangled in everything that had happened. It was true he was supposed to play along with Candace’s act these days, but right now, he had no interest in entertaining her.
“I’m dealing with something work-related,” he said flatly.
He was about to head upstairs when Candace quickly poured a glass of water and walked over, her voice soft as she tried to comfort him.

Rupert was still simmering with anger, but he took a sip out of basic courtesy before going to the study.
Candace lingered in the living room for a moment, then opened the fridge and took out her latest dessert experiment.
