After Rory stepped out to make the call, Annabel absentmindedly tapped the table with her slender fingers—until her phone rang.
It was Anika.
“What’s wrong, Anika? Why are you calling?” Annabel asked immediately.
Anika’s anxious voice came through the line. “Annabel, Jared is missing. I can’t find him. What do I do p>
“What did you say? Jared is missing?” Annabel froze. She shot to her feet and grabbed her bag, already moving.
As she headed toward the door, she soothed Anika, “Don’t panic. I’m coming right now. Just wait for me, okay p>
“Annabel, what’s going on?” Rory asked quickly, noticing the abrupt change in her expression as he ended his call.
“I have to go. It’s urgent. You handle the casting matters, and call me if you need anything,” Annabel said as she hurried out of the office.
By the time she reached the hospital and rushed into the ward, Anika was there alone.
