Rupert helped Candace up from the floor and shot Annabel a frosty glare. “Annabel, Candy is already dying. Isn’t it too petty of you to argue with her like this p>
“Are you saying that I’m being petty right now?” Annabel asked incredulously, stunned by his remark. “Fine, then. If that’s what you think, I’ll leave now. I won’t bother you two anymore!” She stormed out of the room without another word.
“Oh no…” Candace hurriedly pushed Rupert away, her expression twisted with anxiety. “Ron, please don’t hate Annabel because of me. Annabel is a good person. She doesn’t really mean it. She just misunderstood the situation, that’s all. You should go and talk to her, okay? I just want you to be happy…” She coughed up blood as she spoke, but in her heart she was so gleeful she could barely contain her laughter.
Her plan seemed to be progressing perfectly. No matter how many mistakes she had made or how important Annabel was to Rupert, Annabel could never compete with a dying woman like Candace. As long as she kept pushing, Rupert would soon be hers.
“Okay. I will,” Rupert said with a nod. “You should get some rest. I’ll come visit you again when I’m free.” With that, he left the room without another word.

What had happened between her and Rupert in the room had all been an act, staged right in front of Candace.
