“Evidence…” Bella faltered. For a moment, she panicked, searching her mind—then coming up empty. “I don’t have evidence,” she admitted helplessly, “but I swear every word I’m saying is true. Heather was jealous of Annabel, so she asked me to find someone to break into Star Entertainment’s internal network. I was only helping her p>
The officer nodded and told the transcriptionist the interrogation was over. Then he turned back to Bella. “Alright. We’ll look into it. But you can’t leave the police station until we verify your statement.” He paused, taking in her haggard appearance. “We’ll escort you home first, though. You can clean up and change your clothes p>
Bella was then escorted out of the interrogation room.
Ever since leaving the opening ceremony for Farewell, My Love, Heather had been distracted. She couldn’t get Bella’s look as she was being arrested—or Annabel’s smile as she watched it happen—out of her mind.
Bella wouldn’t sell her out… would she?

“Ah!” Heather jolted back to herself. Hooper had practically shouted in her ear, and she nearly made him drop the glass in his hand.
“What’s wrong with you?” Hooper asked, giving her a worried look.
Heather forced her expression to settle and managed a smile. “I’m fine,” she said, shaking her head lightly. “Just tired. I haven’t been sleeping well p>
They fell into a conversation that dragged on until someone knocked at the door.
Hooper opened it and found several police officers standing outside. “Hello,” he said, startled.
“Can I help you, officers?” Hooper asked.

Heather could feel panic burning in her eyes, so she turned her face away from the doorway.
The lead officer stepped in without answering. His gaze swept over Heather, sharp and assessing. Seemingly satisfied, he turned to Hooper and said, “We’re here to investigate the attempted theft of Star Entertainment’s confidential information. Miss Norman has been implicated. We need her to come to the station to assist with the investigation p>
“Heather?” Hooper stared in disbelief. He looked to his sister for an explanation and saw she had gone frighteningly pale.
“I had nothing to do with it,” Heather blurted out. “I was there that day, but I didn’t know any crime was happening. Hooper p>
Hooper knew how stubborn his sister could be, but he couldn’t believe she was capable of something criminal. Besides, she was family.
“I’m sorry, officer. There must be some mistake,” he said quickly. “My sister was only there to relax. She had nothing to do with any theft. She’s recovering from an illness and can’t handle stress. There’s no way she would risk her health by committing a crime. And if she refuses to cooperate, you can’t take her without evidence that she was involved p>
