Her confession stunned Rory. He stared at her, shocked, and met eyes that held nothing but sincerity.

After a long silence, Rory finally spoke, hesitant and careful. “Margo, in my heart, you’re a good friend. I can help you fix your professional mistakes. Isn’t it better for us to keep our relationship the way it is?”
Rory didn’t say it outright, but he was rejecting her, and the realization weighed heavily on Margo.

Rory stood up and walked out of the ward without even turning back.

“The guards will change shifts tonight between seven and eight. I’ve already dealt with the guards in here, but there are still some outside that door. When the time comes, you need to use those keys and avoid the warden. Once you get past the gate, climb over the wall. One of my men will be waiting for you on the other side.”
“Okay. I understand.” Candace nodded firmly, trying to pull her hand back while gripping the keys like her last thread of hope.
But Heather instantly caught her wrist. “I’ve given you the keys like I promised. Now it’s your turn to give me what you promised. Remember, I can put you back in prison just as easily as I can help you get out. Do you understand?”
