It was the little girl’s first time dining at a stranger’s house, and she was understandably shy.
Anneliese looked after her with infinite patience throughout the meal.
On Ellie’s other side sat Jonathan, who took it upon himself to look after both Anneliese and the child. He reached for dishes that Anneliese couldn’t easily get to and donned gloves to peel shrimp for both of them.
Watching this, Derek and Penelope were practically beaming with satisfaction.
To the two elders, the scene looked like a preview of life with a great-granddaughter;
it made them feel as though the day they’d hold a great-grandchild of their own wasn’t far off.
Wendy watched with a smile as well.
She turned to Derek and Penelope to share what she and Anneliese had discussed earlier in the sitting room.
“Mr. and Mrs. Fullbuster, both Ellie and I adore Anneliese. We feel this connection shouldn’t go to waste. I’m hoping to pick an auspicious day to host a banquet and formally recognize Anneliese as my goddaughter. I was wondering if you would give us your blessing p>
Anneliese was wiping a bit of soup from the corner of Ellie’s mouth.
Hearing this, her hand paused, and she looked over at Wendy. Wendy gave her a look of motherly tenderness, and Anneliese offered a small smile in return.
She then turned toward Derek and Penelope. Derek chuckled and said, “That sounds like Anneliese’s good fortune p>
Wendy had her own bridal empire, and since her divorce, she hadn’t remarried. Steven was her only child, and since he was in politics, he clearly had no interest in her business.
By Wendy making such a formal gesture to claim her as a goddaughter, Anneliese would undoubtedly benefit from Wendy’s influence, whether she intended to or not. Anneliese smiled at Penelope. “I am willing, Grandma p>
Penelope knew that since Wendy had brought it up at the table, she must have already asked Anneliese privately.
The old lady nodded. “Then we’ll pick a time p>
Jonathan placed another peeled shrimp into Anneliese’s bowl before speaking up.
“Grandpa, Grandma, are you forgetting that the Fullbuster family has a banquet to host as well p>
“Huh? I didn’t know that,” Anneliese said, turning to Jonathan in surprise. “What banquet p>
He hadn’t mentioned anything about the family hosting an event anytime soon.
Jonathan pulled off his disposable gloves and picked up a wet wipe, meticulously cleaning his hands as he explained, “We haven’t made a format public appearance together since we got married. Honey isnt it about time you gave me some official status p>
He had already cleared the idea with Derek just a moment ago, and the old man had been all for it.
After all, Jonathan had announced his marriage six months ago, yet Anneliese had never been seen in public, and there wasn’t even a whisper of a wedding date.
In their social circle, there was a
strict protocol for such things-from the initial proposal to the
engagement and finally the wedding. Every step had to be perfect to maintain the dignity of the families involved.
This was especially true for the heir of the Fullbuster family; his marriage was no small matter.
Instead, this “troublemaker” of a grandson had gone and gotten a marriage certificate without a word to his family and announced it on AeroAir’s official website.
Derek had fielded countless phone calls because of it. Over the last six months, he’d been pestered about it at every social event he attended.
Because Anneliese had remained a mystery, the rumors were wild. Some even whispered that Jonathan had come out of the closet and

Derek had been under a lot of pressure and had lost count of how many times he’d urged Jonathan to bring Anneliese back to the capital.
