He gripped his phone tightly before dialing Anneliese’s number again, but the girl did not pick
It turned out she knew he’d been lying about being away on business, choosing to keep Selina company in Agylae instead.
What else does she know? Zacharias closed his eyes briefly, almost forgetting to breathe.
He eventually spun around, grabbed his suit jacket from the couch, and made for the door.
Just then, Selina walked out from the kitchen, dressed in comfy clothes, while holding a tray of
cookies.
Seeing him stride past without so much as a glance, she rushed forward and caught his arm. “Zach, the cookies are ready. Try them! Do you think they’re good enough to be served at the party p>
She picked one up and brought it to his lips, her eyes full of hope.
Unable to disappoint her, Zacharias opened his mouth and took a bite.

However, he could not focus on the taste of the cookies.
Even with Selina standing before him, his mind was filled with the image of Anneliese’s chilling expression.
He nodded absent–mindedly, then pushed away the hand offering him another cookie. “Selina, I need to head back now p>
He turned to leave, but Selina had no plans of letting him walk out so easily.
She clung to him tightly and pleaded, “Zach, the party is less than twelve hours away. Do you really have to leave now? I want so much for you to stay and celebrate with me p>
She knew he had just called Anneliese, but she was confident that she could keep Zacharias by
her side.
After all, Anneliese was nothing compared to her.
For the past two days, women had been calling Zach and pestering him, yet he ignored them

Zacharias had been determined to leave, his expression unshaken.

Selina smiled sweetly. “Why wouldn’t she? It’s the perfect chance for us to celebrate our birthday together. We’ve never done that before, and I’m really looking forward to it p>
A wave of relief washed over Zacharias at once, realizing his in–laws must’ve told her that he was in Agylae.
Since she agreed to come, it meant she wasn’t truly angry.
When she arrived, he would explain everything and coax her back into good spirits.
He’d say he wanted to surprise her by coming early to set up the
party.
By then, Anneliese would surely be touched.

He turned back to Selina with a smile on his face.
Selina blinked innocently. “Of course. You’ve been helping me out for two days, and I feel safe around you. How can I let Anne get angry at you?

He finally understood why Anneliese had been upset enough to block his number–she loved

Selina set the tray aside, took his hand, and led him toward the dressing room on the second floor.
As if it were the most natural thing in the world for a man and his sister–in–law to be alone together, she seemed oblivious that their behavior was improper.
Zacharias, lost in the warmth of her closeness, was convinced she was just an open–minded
person.
However, Selina was smug.
The birthday party would be her moment in the spotlight. She’d be at the center of attention, not allowing Anneliese to spoil any part of her big day.
The next day, when Anneliese left home, she stood by the elevator for a long time, observing.
She watched as a car headed up from the underground garage, floor by floor. Only when it stopped at the 20th floor did she press the button.
Anneliese waited, not wanting to bump into Jonathan.
She stepped forward when the elevator doors slid open, only to be met by a familiar face.
The man recognized her instantly, his eyes wide with surprise.
