Penelope picked up her phone and dialed Elizabeth.

Penelope clearly didn’t care what she had to say or explain. She was just dead set on siding with Anneliese.
If Anneliese actually came from a good background, maybe she could understand and let it go. But Anneliese was beneath Jonathan in every way, and yet Penelope wasn’t trying to get them to divorce before anyone in Halden found out.

“Enough. You’ve been in Oceaton long enough. If you have nothing better to do, just go back to Halden or go abroad for a while. You’re pushing middle age already, and you still haven’t figured your life out. Stop meddling in the kids’ marriage p>
With that, Penelope hung up.
Elizabeth clutched her phone, her chest rising and falling with anger. Under the neon lights streaming in through the car window, her face looked grim.
Jonathan led Anneliese into the room Penelope had prepared for them last time. Thankfully, everything inside was perfectly normal this time.
“Go take a shower. I’ll get you some fresh clothes p>
Anneliese figured Jonathan had to be uncomfortable, so she hurried him.
She turned to head for the closet, but he caught her by the wrist.
“What is it?” Anneliese glanced back.
“Let’s shower together, okay?” He wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin
on her shoulder, his nose nuzzling the side of her neck.
The thought of sharing a shower with him brought back all the wild memories of last night. The rush of hormones was overwhelming.
Anneliese’s ears turned pink. She really wasn’t ready for that.
