“Everything okay?” Jonathan noticed the phone still lit in Anneliese’s hand and figured she must’ve seen the trending post already.
He tugged his suit pants a little higher and sat on the edge of the bed. Then, he reached over, pulled her out from under the blanket, and settled her on his lap. His voice came low and gentle. His lips were brushing the tight space between her brows as if he could smooth away the worry there.

Her irritation from seeing the news online was tangling with the confusion of his sudden tenderness.
She pushed a hand against his chest and whispered the reminder, afraid he might take it further.

Jessica had heard enough.
Jonathan’s soft voice and the quiet, intimate sounds in the background told her everything. Even through the phone, she could feel that steady control around him, calm and deliberate, impossible to shake.
For someone like Jonathan, burying a trending topic would be child’s play. And honestly, there wasn’t much Jessica could do now besides try to comfort Anneliese, though it was obvious Jonathan had already taken over that role himself.
All of a sudden, Jessica felt a small wave of sadness wash over her. It feels like that ambitious b*stard’s starting to steal the spot I used to have in Anneliese’s heart. Honestly, I dislike it immensely.
