Ten minutes later, the massive black Agusta helicopter bearing the Compton Group logo tore through the storm. It defied standard air traffic control protocols, its rotors slicing through the heavy rain as it drove directly toward Manhattan.
Inside the freezing cabin, Cole sat rigid in the leather seat, completely soaked. His fist was still clenched around the broken pregnancy test. His blood smeared across the white plastic in a dark, spreading stain.
His mind churned in a vortex of hatred and betrayal. He was going to make her answer for this. He was going to drag the truth out of her.
The helicopter descended aggressively and touched down on the private helipad on the roof of the Apex Bio tower. The downdraft blasted the rain outward in every direction. Cole didn’t wait for the pilot’s signal. He kicked the cabin door open and stepped out into the storm.
He crossed the roof like a force of nature, bypassed the security scanners, and took the emergency stairwell directly down to the executive floor. He moved down the hallway toward the glass conference room and saw June standing inside.
He didn’t reach for the handle.

He raised his heavy leather shoe and kicked the thick glass door with the full weight of his body behind it.
The heavy glass door of the conference room buckled violently inward. A massive spiderweb of cracks exploded across the thick pane, the metal hinges screaming as the door slammed into the wall.
The deafening impact made Brogan physically flinch. He had been on the phone coordinating the nursing team, but he dropped the call immediately and moved to stand beside Crawford, his face set in cold fury at the intrusion. Crawford squared his shoulders at once, every muscle in his body priming for a fight.
June turned slowly from the window.
Cole stood in the doorway. He looked like something dragged out of hell. His expensive dark suit was completely soaked, the wet fabric clinging to the heavy muscles of his chest. Rainwater ran from his hair down his face. His eyes were bloodshot and entirely feral, locked on June and nothing else.
Crawford stepped forward immediately, placing his massive frame directly between Cole and June.
“This is private property, Compton,” Crawford said, his voice a low, lethal growl. “Get out of here before I throw you out the window p>
Cole didn’t acknowledge him. He was consumed entirely by his own psychotic rage. He raised his right hand and threw the two broken, blood-smeared pieces of the pregnancy test onto the glass conference table. The plastic slid across the smooth surface and came to rest just inches from the edge, directly in June’s line of sight.
June looked down.
