Chapter 792:

She was still crouched behind the fountain, watching. The hatred in her eyes had grown into something beyond reason—something monstrous and absolute. She had lost everything. Her career, her family, her home, her future. And in her mind, every loss led back to the same name.

June.

Slowly, silently, she reached down and closed her hand around a sharp, jagged piece of broken glass from the ground. The edge cut immediately into her palm. Blood ran down her wrist. She didn’t feel it.

All she could see was June’s back, turned slightly toward Easton, completely unaware.

All she could think about was what came next.

The police van disappeared around the bend in the driveway, and the SWAT officers began packing up their equipment. The tension in the air eased slightly. FBI agents moved among themselves, comparing notes and filling out paperwork. No one was paying any attention to the broken stone fountain at the edge of the drive.

June turned slightly toward Easton, twirling her black umbrella in her hand. She was about to tell him she was ready to go home when she heard it—a low, guttural snarl, the sound of a cornered animal that has decided to die fighting.

Alycia exploded from behind the fountain. Her hair was wild, her face covered in mud and blood, her eyes blazing with a madness that had moved entirely beyond reason. She held the shard of broken glass raised above her head and ran straight at June, aiming directly for her throat.

It happened so fast that the FBI agents didn’t have time to draw their weapons. They could only watch, frozen in place, as the glass came down toward June.

He moved like a striking cobra—a single, fluid step that placed him between June and Alycia. His left hand shot out and clamped down on Alycia’s wrist with bone-crushing force. The glass shard stopped an inch from his chest, trembling violently in her grip.

Alycia screamed and wrenched at her arm, but Easton’s grip was iron. He stared into her wild, bloodshot eyes with a gaze that was cold and still and utterly without mercy—the eyes of a man who has already made his decision.

Without a word, he seized her elbow with his right hand and applied slow, steady, relentless pressure.

There was a sickening crack.

Alycia’s scream sent birds scattering from the surrounding trees. Her arm bent at a grotesque, unnatural angle. The glass shard slipped from her fingers and disappeared into the mud.

Easton drove his boot into the side of her knee, sending her sprawling face-first into the dirt. He planted his foot on her back and held her there, pinned and screaming, until the FBI agents finally recovered themselves and came running.

Two agents grabbed Alycia by the arms and hauled her upright. Her broken arm hung at a terrible angle, and she was sobbing and thrashing between them. “I hate you!” she screamed at June, spitting blood and mud. “I hate you more than anything in this world! I hope you burn in hell! I hope you die alone and miserable p>
