Her phone buzzed on the vanity table. It was a text from the informant she had bribed inside the Compton Group’s aviation department: Cole’s jet just took off. Destination: Boston Logan. He forced an emergency clearance through a severe thunderstorm.

She collapsed onto her bed, chest heaving, entirely convinced she had just secured her future.
In Brooklyn, Abbie dropped the act the instant the line went dead. Her face returned to its composed, unreadable calm. She saved the audio file, attached it to an encrypted email along with a screenshot of the flight tracker showing Cole’s jet cutting through the storm toward Boston, and hit send.
Inside the dark Presidential Suite in Boston, June’s encrypted phone vibrated silently on the nightstand. Her eyes opened at once — instantly alert, her mind sharp.
