June stared at him. She saw straight through the lie.
He didn’t care about the stock. The Compton Group could absorb the hit. He was terrified. He was using the company as a shield to buy time because he was completely incapable of letting her go.
June set the water glass down on the small table and stood. She was much shorter than him, but her absolute lack of fear made her presence towering.
“Stop acting, Cole,” June said, her voice slicing through the air like a scalpel. “You cannot handle Alycia. You will never handle her. Because you are completely paralyzed by your own pathetic, twisted savior complex p>

June shook her head slowly. Her eyes were dead.
“I am not playing your games for another second,” June declared, her voice ringing with absolute finality. “I do not want a single penny of your family’s money. I am waiving all rights to alimony. I am waiving all claims to the corporate shares. I am walking out with nothing. All I want is your signature on that paper p>

The words hit Cole like a barrage of bullets. She was willing to walk away from billions of dollars simply to escape him.
The realization shattered something deep in his chest. The pain instantly curdled into violent, psychotic jealousy.
