Chapter 1104
By the time Annabel and Herman finished dancing, the dinner was nearing its end. They moved to the rest area, but Herman stayed close, continuing to question her. Annabel found it somewhat irritating, yet she answered politely.
Only when Annabel told Michelle she was leaving did Herman finally say, “I’m so glad I met you tonight. Can I have your number? We can keep in touch.”
Annabel was already turning to go. She tilted her head slightly, looking at Herman’s eager expression, and offered a courteous smile.
“I’m in France strictly for business,” she said. “I don’t think sharing my phone number is necessary. I’m sorry.”
Herman was about to insist when an angry voice rang out from nearby.
“Annabel!”
It was Rupert.
The moment he saw the same bold man speaking with Annabel, jealousy surged through him.
Annabel turned the moment she heard the voice. Herman also looked toward the sound, confusion flickering in his eyes. When Annabel saw the man striding toward them, she let out a quiet breath of relief. At least she could leave safely tonight.
Still, something about it bothered her.
“Why are you here? I haven’t called you yet, have I?” Annabel asked, frowning, feeling a little unsettled.
Rupert approached with a hard-edged intensity. The sight of Herman speaking with Annabel had already ignited his jealousy, and he was in no mood to explain himself. He walked straight up to her, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her behind him. Then, without looking away from the other man, he said in a low, dangerous voice, “Come home with me.”
Before Annabel could even process what was happening, Rupert was already dragging her away. She sighed deeply. So he was jealous again. When Rupert was like this, there was no point arguing. They would talk after they got back.

But just as Annabel was about to leave with him, Herman stepped in and stopped them. He had no idea who Rupert was. All he knew was that some stranger was trying to take Annabel away, and he wasn’t about to allow it.
“You can’t take her,” Herman said coldly to Rupert.
Rupert actually seemed amused. He halted and turned, fixing Herman with a look that carried a dangerous glint.
“What did you say?” Rupert growled.
Their voices were loud enough to draw attention. Guests who had just left the banquet hall began to gather, and among them was Michelle, walking out with a close friend. Standing on the steps, Michelle stared at Rupert down below.
“Is he here for Annabel?” she wondered.
Herman noticed the eyes on them, but he didn’t care. His gaze slid past Rupert and settled on Annabel. He didn’t just want her body—he wanted her heart as well.
“I said let her go. I saw her first. And who are you, anyway? She doesn’t even know you,” Herman replied icily, clearly unwilling to back down.
“She doesn’t know me?” Rupert paused, then suddenly burst into laughter. It sounded almost mocking. What a ridiculous joke.
The only reason he hadn’t come to the birthday party was because he was afraid Annabel would feel jealous.
