“I’m going to revise the design,” she said coldly as she left.
Rupert was left alone in the living room. He sank onto the sofa, sulking.
He turned his head and watched her go, his eyes full of anger, helplessness, and reluctant longing. Still, it was only a lovers’ quarrel. They wouldn’t stay angry for long.
Before he knew it, it was nearly eleven. After thinking for a while, Rupert decided to be the one to make peace. He guessed Annabel must be hungry. After all, you barely ate at birthday parties.
So Rupert went to the kitchen and made a bowl of noodles for her. When he finished, he carried it to the study.
When Rupert stepped inside, Annabel was completely absorbed in her work. With a soft sigh, he walked up to her and placed the bowl in front of her.
“I know you’re angry with me,” he said quietly, “but I also know you didn’t eat much at the party. Eat this first, okay? I can’t let my honey starve.”
Annabel had been upset earlier, but once she focused on the design, the anger had faded without her noticing. When she heard Rupert’s voice, she paused and looked up at him.
“Aren’t you angry anymore?” Annabel asked casually.
Rupert shook his head slightly and sat down beside her. “I thought it through, and I realized I was just being jealous. You can’t really blame me for that. My woman is the best, so of course I don’t trust the men who get close to you. I feel like they all have ulterior motives.”
Annabel’s mood lightened a little after Rupert explained himself so quietly. It was clear he didn’t want to keep arguing.

“Okay. I understand.” After thinking it over, Rupert nodded. He knew he had been wrong, and since Annabel didn’t like him behaving that way, he had to change.
Annabel smiled, took his hand, and spoke sincerely. “I know you hate seeing me with other men, but you need to trust me. Let’s make this work, okay? I promise I won’t make you unhappy.”
Rupert looked into her eyes and smiled. He lifted a hand and gently stroked her hair, his gaze full of affection.
“Okay. I get it. Eat the noodles, or they’ll get cold.”
