“Why are you here?” Annabel cut in, interrupting him.
After the accident at sea, Herman had been hospitalized. Annabel had contacted his men and asked them to take good care of him. Perhaps because he’d nearly lost his life, he had been watched closely and wasn’t allowed to contact her while he recovered.
Besides, Rupert had been there as well, so Annabel hadn’t visited Herman.
A few days later, she left with Rupert.
Thinking of it now, Annabel felt a flicker of guilt. Too much had happened recently, and she had practically forgotten about Herman.
