Chapter 1481:
She knew Annabel was on an entirely different level—and that was exactly what irritated her. As a woman, it was infuriating to be outshone by Annabel after working beside Rupert for so long.
“Who do you think you are?” the secretary snapped. “Miss Norman is sitting inside. I kindly asked you not to go in, or you’ll end up embarrassing yourself p>
She had no idea her spiteful words would only fuel Annabel’s anger.
“What did you say? Miss Norman? Heather p>
Annabel’s voice turned icy, her eyes narrowing.
“I don’t know about that, ma’am, but you should think carefully, or you’ll be the one embarrassed,” the secretary shot back arrogantly. She was no longer the humble, obedient person she used to be when Rupert was around.
Annabel, however, was stunned.
What on earth was Heather doing in Rupert’s office?
“Don’t think you can trick me by making things up. You’d better check your facts before you start talking nonsense,” Annabel snapped.
“Do you think I’m talking nonsense? It’s what the whole company’s been talking about today. You must’ve noticed it too, right p>
Hearing the secretary’s words, Annabel felt both angry and amused.
No wonder the employees had been looking at her strangely today. They all assumed she was about to fall from grace. And since they believed her end was near, they were eager to push her down even faster.
“Well, you really are stupid,” Annabel shot back, shaking her head.
Just then, the door to the CEO’s office opened from inside.
Both women turned to look, only to see Heather stepping out. Her clothes were in disarray, her collar looked as though it had been yanked open, and her sleeves were rumpled, as if they’d been rolled up roughly. Even her hair was a mess.
Annabel froze, stunned.

So Heather really had been inside.
“What are you doing here?” Annabel demanded, staring at Heather in disbelief.
Heather lifted her chin slightly. “Miss Hewitt is here too. What a coincidence p>
There was something pointed in her tone—something insinuating—that only worsened Annabel’s mood.
…
Erica emerged from the office, a storm brewing in her eyes.
“What brings you here? I overheard your entire tirade. It’s clear you have no sense of decorum, coming here to stir up conflict p>
Erica glared at Annabel, flicked a dismissive look her way, then turned her attention elsewhere.
“My apologies. It’s my fault.” The secretary spoke apologetically, though her eyes still brimmed with contempt for Annabel.
“I came to get the contract, but she blocked me.” Annabel kept her displeasure in check as she looked at the two women. Frustration surged through her veins, squeezing tight around her heart.
Oddly, Rupert still hadn’t come out. The thought made Annabel’s expression darken.
