“What?” Rupert jolted and immediately started checking Annabel for injuries.
Annabel chuckled and shook her head. “I’m fine. I took her to the hospital afterward. She said she doesn’t have any friends here because she just returned from abroad. I saw her again at Crystalmist Restaurant earlier tonight. She gave me a lipstick she said was a token of appreciation p>
The smile on Annabel’s face vanished. She removed her necklace and held it up for Rupert to see.
“The lipstick was poisoned. I think that woman wants to kill me p>
“Kill you?” Rupert’s brows drew together, something shifting in his eyes. The dark stain on the silver necklace made his frown deepen. “Are you okay? Do you want me to hire someone to guard you tomorrow p>
Annabel patted his hand reassuringly. “Don’t worry. I’m fine. I realized it before it was too late. I’ve already dispatched p>
“…someone to investigate her.” Rupert let out a sigh of relief and nodded, though a faint unease still lingered in his chest.
Just then, Annabel’s phone rang.
It was Anthony.
“Ada, I’ve found out that Annot is actually Talia p>
Annabel’s eyes widened in disbelief. Hadn’t Talia died after falling off the cliff? Then again, they had never found her body at the bottom. The change in Annabel’s expression didn’t escape Rupert. He silently mouthed, “What’s wrong p>
Seeing the concern on his face, she forced herself to steady her breathing. She replied to Anthony, “I see. Thank you for telling me. I’ll call you later—we’ll talk more then. I’m a bit busy right now p>
Annabel ended the call and turned to Rupert, her face solemn. There was a trace of helplessness in her voice as she said, “Annot is Talia p>
“What?” Rupert blurted out, stunned that the woman was still alive. “Talia? Didn’t she fall off the cliff? How is she still alive p>

Annabel let out a slow breath. She couldn’t believe Talia had returned—yet some part of her felt it had been inevitable.
“I don’t know. Maybe she got lucky. Not many people could survive a fall like that. She probably had plastic surgery, too. Annot looks nothing like Talia p>
Rupert thought for a moment before asking, “What are you going to do now p>
They both understood Talia’s nature. She was unstable, and if she was back, she would stop at nothing to hurt Annabel.
“Talia definitely wants revenge,” Annabel sighed. She had never pretended to be a saint. Now that her enemy already knew where she was, there was no point in hiding.
Rupert nodded. He believed Annabel could handle herself, but Talia was unpredictable. They couldn’t afford to drop their guard.
He tightened his grip on Annabel’s hand and said gravely, “Be more careful from now on. If anything happens, call me immediately p>
“I know.” Annabel rested her head on Rupert’s shoulder and smiled at him softly.
He smiled back at her. The rage in his eyes eased, but his voice still carried a warning as he looked at Annabel.
