Morning sunlight spilled across the Ashcroft estate in soft golden streams, warming the dining table where Tiara’s family had gathered for breakfast. Yet despite the lively atmosphere, sadness still lingered in Tiara’s grandmother’s eyes.
The old she-wolf’s gaze kept drifting toward Tiara and Damon, disappointment barely concealed beneath the surface. Even after Damon agreed to stay the night, she still looked unconvinced-desperately searching for proof that the two of them truly loved each other.
After Tiara quietly explained the situation to him earlier that morning, Damon had reluctantly decided to make more of an effort.
Even if every instinct in his body screamed that this sort of performance was ridiculous.

A low growl of annoyance rumbled faintly beneath his ribs as he lifted a forkful of green lettuce toward Tiara.
“Open your mouth,” Damon ordered stiffly. “Vegetables are good for the pup p>
Tiara looked up slowly, disbelief flashing across her face. “Damon p>
“Tiara, my sunshine,” he interrupted with a smile so forced it nearly hurt, “please stop being stubborn. I want you and our baby to be healthy p>
The endearment nearly made Parker choke on his drink.
Across the table, Diana Ashcroft blinked several times, looking deeply unsettled by the sight of the Beta smiling.
Then Tiara’s aunt cleared her throat awkwardly.
“I’m sorry, Beta Damon, but Tiara has hated vegetables since she was a pup. She used to cry whenever we made her eat them.” A laugh escaped her. “She always said they tasted like wet leaves p>
Damon froze.
The silence lasted exactly two seconds before Tiara’s grandmother narrowed her eyes sharply.
“You didn’t know that? Aren’t you two supposed to be lovers?” Her expression turned increasingly accusing. “How can you not know what your own mate likes to eat p>
Damon felt the collective attention at the table shift toward him like a firing squad.
Beside him, Tiara nearly burst into laughter.
“Nana, don’t look at him like that,” she said quickly, saving him before the damage worsened. “I pretended to enjoy vegetables around Damon because he always lectures people about healthy living.” Her green eyes

She lounged lazily across the bed with her phone in hand, entirely unbothered by his tone.
“You’re so dramatic,” she muttered, rolling her eyes. “Of course, I still do healthy things.” She sat up straighter with visible annoyance. “I just don’t eat vegetables here because they aren’t fresh in Blackfang. Your Pack grows nearly everything locally. We have to import half of ours p>
Her expression dimmed slightly afterward.
“Blackfang always survived on Rowan’s business,” she said more quietly. “And he barely cared whether the rest of us were struggling. We grew up eating whatever filled the stomach fastest,” Tiara admitted with a small shrug. “Most Blackfang wolves did p>
Something tightened unpleasantly in Damon’s chest again.
That strange feeling had been appearing more often around her lately.
Guilt.
Damon exhaled slowly before speaking again.
“Fine,” he muttered. “Then when you move into my house, that changes. I’ll make sure you’re starting a proper diet.” His gaze dropped instinctively toward her stomach, his wolf immediately alert at the thought of the tiny life growing there. “You’re carrying my pup now. Tiara stared at him for a second before laughing softly beneath her breath.
Then she lowered her hand toward her belly.
“You hear that?” she murmured teasingly. “Your father is unbelievably annoying p>
