Relief washed over Damon’s face the moment the cabin door swung open and revealed Lylah standing safely on the other side. The tension that had been clinging to his scent eased immediately.
“Thank the Goddess.” He pressed a hand against his chest. “You’re alright p>
His gaze swept over her from head to toe, as though personally confirming she was still in one piece.
“When those ridiculous stories started spreading through Lunaris, I was worried sick.” A grin tugged at his mouth. “Though honestly, I was even more worried Alpha Ezra would tear apart Lunaris and half of Lunera searching for whoever was responsible.” The words died abruptly when his eyes shifted past her shoulder
Ezra was standing inside the cabin.
The Alpha’s eyes met his.
Damon immediately straightened and dipped his head in respect.
“Alpha.” His gaze lingered on Ezra for a moment before a look of satisfaction crossed his face.
“You seem considerably better now that Luna Lylah is with you p>
The comment wasn’t entirely a joke.
The previous day had been one of the most chaotic Damon could remember. Both he and Zyrelle had spent hours attempting to manage an Alpha whose wolf had been teetering dangerously close to losing
control.
Neither of them had ever seen Ezra that enraged.
The memory alone was enough to make Damon suppress a shudder.

Lylah looked up just in time to see a figure hurrying toward the cabin.

Wrapped in a thick coat against the mountain chill, Tiara practically flew across the clearing. One hand remained protectively over the slight curve of her growing belly while the other reached toward Lylah.

When Tiara finally pulled back, she immediately grabbed Lylah by the shoulders and began inspecting her
Her eyes swept across Lylah’s face.
Her arms.
Her neck.
Any visible patch of skin she could see.
Searching for injuries.
Searching for proof that the rumors hadn’t become something worse. Only when she appeared satisfied did some of the fear leave her expression.
Then her gaze drifted beyond Lylah toward the dark forest surrounding the volunteer camp.
The contempt that crossed her face was impossible to miss. “When Damon and I arrived earlier, I genuinely thought we’d come to the wrong place.” Her nose wrinkled. “Because why would Lunar Grace send students all the way out here p>
She gestured toward the endless wilderness.
“Then Damon confirmed Alpha Ezra was actually here and being treated. They told us he was injured while saving you p>
The horror in her voice made Lylah wince.
Tiara immediately caught her hand and guided her a few steps away from the others. “What happened p>
Lylah’s expression softened.
The memories were still fresh.
Too fresh.
“Someone must have brought the article to the Lunera villagers,” she said quietly. “Not just the article. Whoever did it twisted the story and filled their heads with lies, They believed I was some kind of witch. They thought I had brought misfortune to Lunera p>

The protective instincts of a future mother seemed to sharpen every emotion she felt.

At least nobody with half a brain still believes those ridiculous rumors about you and Jude Knight. They know he’s simply the pup your father once saved p>
