Damon had never seen Tiara afraid, which was precisely why the sight of her nervously staring into the darkness was so entertaining.
A mischievous spark flickered in Damon’s eyes.
“You know,” he drawled casually, guiding the vehicle along the winding mountain road, “aside from no wanting to interrupt Alpha Ezra and Luna Lylah, there was another reason I wanted us to leave early.” Something in his tone made her suspicious.
Tiara immediately looked at him.

The words slipped into the silence between them.
Tiara’s gaze instinctively shifted toward the darkness beyond the window.
“There are stories,” His voice lowered conspiratorially. “About monsters roaming these roads p>
Tiara stiffened. “Damon, don’t start p>
“They say travelers sometimes hear footsteps following them through the trees. Not quite wolf. Not quite beast. And when they look back, there’s nobody there p>
Tiara’s wolf immediately stirred beneath her skin, instincts sharpening as she scanned the surrounding forest.
“Damon, why are you slowing down p>
The vehicle had indeed begun to lose speed.
Very slightly.
But enough for her to notice.
He pretended not to hear her. His gaze shifted toward the tree line, and the smile threatening to form on his lips became harder to suppress.
“I think I just saw something.” Damon narrowed his eyes toward the forest. “I swear I saw a pair of red eyes watching us from those bushes p>
“Damon p>
“And fangs, Tiara.” He leaned forward slightly. “Definitely fangs. Large ones p>
Tiara’s mouth fell open.
For a split second, her gaze darted toward the darkness.

“You know,” Damon continued solemnly, “there’s a reason Lunera stayed isolated for so long.
“For the Goddess’s sake, Damon, drive p>
Her voice emerged noticeably higher than usual.
Damon nearly lost control of his composure.
The sight was priceless.
Tiara’s eyes were huge. One hand gripped the leather seat while the other rested protectively over her stomach. This was the same woman who had managed to turn his own family against him, stealing ther loyalty and affection almost at first sight.
Yet she was genuinely frightened by a few horror stories.
A laugh finally escaped him. “You’re actually scared p>
The amusement in his voice was impossible to miss.
But the laughter died almost immediately.
Because the scent hitting his nose changed.
Fear.
Damon’s wolf reacted before his mind fully processed it. His smile vanished.
Tiara’s breathing had become uneven.
Her shoulders were tense. One hand pressed against her stomach.
The color drained from Damon’s face.

No response.

A cold rush of panic surged through him.

‘She was pregnant!
‘What if the shock had affected the baby p>
The realization slammed into him like a physical blow.
All traces of amusement disappeared.
“Fuck!” His wolf exploded into alarm.

Damon immediately restarted the vehicle and slammed his foot against the accelerator.
The engine roared. Moonlight blurred past the windows.
“Tiara, I’m sorry.” His voice shook. “I-i wasn’t thinking p>
The road twisted beneath them as the vehicle sped through the mountains. Damon’s hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white. His wolf is clawing at the inside of his skull. Every instinct screamed the same thing. Sweat gathered along his temples.
His heart pounded so violently that he could hear it.
“Just hang on,” he said hoarsely. “We’re going to the nearest treatment center p>
The lights of a small medical facility finally appeared ahead.
Relief hit him so hard it almost hurt.
The moment the vehicle stopped, Damon turned toward her.
Guilt.
Fear.
Regret.
Every emotion was written plainly across his face.
“I’m sorry,” he said again. “I didn’t mean to p>
A strange sound interrupted him.
A tiny snort.
Then another.
Damon blinked as Tiara’s shoulders began to shake.
Confusion quickly replaced panic.
Slowly, very slowly, she lifted her head. And Damon discovered she wasn’t struggling to breathe from fear. She was trying-and failing-not to laugh.
The moment their eyes met, her composure shattered completely.
Laughter burst from her.
