His tone remained casual. Unfortunately, the bitterness beneath it was impossible to completely hide.
He immediately supplied unpleasant possibilities.

Some former lover. Perhaps one of the countless admirers Tiara undoubtedly attracted during her years in Blackfang.
The thought irritated him more than it should have.
What made it worse was that he found himself comparing an imaginary rival to himself.
Whoever the male was, Tiara certainly spoke of him more fondly than she spoke of Damon.

Tiara returned her attention to the view outside.
She never saw the thoughtful look that settled over his features.
While her attention remained fixed on the clouds beyond the window, Damon found himself wondering if he would have to uncover her ways of loving by himself.
