In Lunaris, Cora stirred the cooking pot while Meredith, the Omega maid assigned to serve her, stood nearby preparing ingredients. She looked perfectly at peace as though nothing had happened. As though she hadn’t secretly slipped out several nights ago.
As though she hadn’t traveled all the way to Lunera and left chaos in her wake.
“Luna… there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask p>
Cora glanced at her with a pleasant smile.

Meredith fidgeted nervously. “A few nights ago, I came to deliver your evening milk.” Concern lingered in her scent. “It was well past midnight, but your room was empty p>
For the briefest moment, Cora’s stirring slowed.
Then she laughed lightly.
“Ah, that. I went to visit my parents. I didn’t think it was important enough to mention p>
“Oh.” Relief immediately crossed Meredith’s face.
“You worry too much.” Cora offered her a reassuring smile. “Everything is fine p>
And as far as Cora knew, it was.
The moment she had returned from Lunera, she had severed every line of communication with Seraphina. She had ignored messages, avoided social channels, and deliberately stayed away from every news source she could find. The less she knew, the safer she would be.
If Rowan asked questions, she could simply claim ignorance.
After all, nobody could prove what they couldn’t connect.
At least, that was what she believed.
“Thank the Goddess, I was worried something had happened to you.” The words had barely left Meredith’s -Tha mouth when the kitchen doors exploded inward.
The violent crash echoed through the apartment.
Rowan stood in the doorway.
The moment Cora saw him, a chill crawled down her spine. His scent flooded the room before he even spoke.

Meredith visibly flinched.

The Omega didn’t hesitate again.
She fled.
The kitchen doors slammed shut behind her.
The moment Meredith disappeared, Rowan drove Cora backward. Her body struck the marble wall with enough force to rattle dishes on nearby shelves. Pain exploded through her skull.
She gasped.
Her feet still dangled above the floor. Her hands clawed at Rowan’s wrist desperately, drawing thin lines of blood across his skin. But he didn’t even seem to notice. His eyes flashed brighter, nearly red.

A predator’s warning.
Before she could react, he seized a fistful of her hair and yanked her upright. A newspaper struck her chest.
The pages were scattered across the floor.
