Chapter 31:
I stormed past her, the metallic ozone of my murderous intent suffocating the entire floor, and headed straight for the private elevator that led to the underground garage. My McLaren was waiting. I was going to find Babe Vincent, rip his throat out with my bare teeth, tear that filthy mark from her flesh, and drag her back to my den.
Jase POV
The V8 engine of my McLaren roared, but it was nothing compared to the feral snarling of my Inner Wolf. I wove recklessly through the slick, rain-swept traffic of Fifth Avenue, the streetlights blurring into streaks of angry red and white.
Marked.
The word tasted like ash and blood in my mouth. The metallic, ozone stench of my own fury was so thick inside the cabin it was hard to breathe. I reached out through the Pack mind-link, trying to force an Alpha’s Command into Adelina’s mind—to make her submit, to make her freeze until I could reach her.
But I hit a dead, suffocating wall. Her wolfless defect—the very thing that had made her so easy to control for two years—was now a mocking void. I couldn’t track her. I couldn’t command her.
I grabbed my phone from the passenger seat and dialed her number.
Call failed.
She had blocked me. With a guttural roar, I hurled the device against the Alcantara leather, shattering the screen. I popped open the hidden compartment in the center console, my fingers closing around an untraceable burner phone. I punched in her digits from memory, my grip tight enough to crack the plastic casing. She was going to answer me.

The quiet elegance of Kain’s penthouse den was shattered by the sudden buzzing of my phone. We were seated at the massive black marble dining table, the silence between us heavy but manageable. Seeing an unknown number flash on the screen, my heart gave a hopeful flutter—perhaps one of the architecture firms was calling back from a different line.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Who gave you permission to let that gutter rat put his teeth on you p>
The metallic, ozone stench of Jase’s fury seemed to bleed straight through the speaker. My blood turned to ice. I pulled the phone away, my thumb hovering over the red button.
“Hang up, and I will burn Wolfe Manor to the ground,” Jase snarled, his voice vibrating with a psychotic, unhinged edge. “I will burn it to ashes with your grandmother inside p>
My breath hitched, my fingers freezing over the screen. “Jase, stop p>
“Babe Vincent?” he roared, the sound tearing at my eardrum. “You let a filthy, debt-ridden Rogue touch what is mine? Why p>
“Because I chose a man who respects me!” I fired back, my voice trembling with a mix of sheer terror and desperate defiance.
A dark, cruel laugh echoed through the line. “I’m going to find him, Adelina. I’m going to rip his throat out with my bare teeth. And then I’m going to personally tear those filthy bite marks off your flesh and drag you back to my den where you belong p>
The line went dead.
