The freezing rain of Park Avenue soaked through my designer coat, but the chill was nothing compared to the absolute isolation settling into my bones. My father had thrown me to the wolves.

I took a slow step toward the edge of the wet pavement. The cars sped past, splashing dirty water against my boots. A dark, twisted thought bloomed in my mind.
