The silence that followed was absolute, heavy with the suffocating weight of impending violence. I braced myself for the explosive roar of Kain’s Lycan.
Instead, Kain laughed.
It was a low, dark rumble that vibrated deep in his chest, completely devoid of anger — the sound of an apex predator thoroughly amused by the pathetic flailing of cornered prey. His ancient cedar scent flared, washing over the room in a wave of pure, predatory delight and instantly crushing the sour metallic tang of Jase’s panic.
Kain looked down at me, his molten gold eyes gleaming with a silent, mocking question. Look at the Alpha you once chose.
A hysterical bubble of disbelief rose in my throat. Jase’s accusation was utterly absurd. My lips still tingled from the terrifying, undeniable heat of Kain’s possessive kiss the night before. There was absolutely nothing fake about the Lycan King’s desire.
Kain didn’t bother arguing with a fool. He simply decided to shatter Jase’s delusion into a million jagged pieces.

The heavy glass door swung open. Two towering Blackstone Warriors in pitch-black tactical gear stepped silently into the room. Kain hadn’t spoken a word to summon them — his command had been issued through the silent, absolute authority of the Mind-Link.
“Throw him out,” Kain ordered aloud, his tone dripping with disgust.
