I pulled my phone from my purse with my free hand, opened my messages, and sent a quick text to the lead paparazzo at The Howl gossip blog.

Jase POV
My skull throbbed with a blinding, agonizing pressure. I woke to harsh morning light filtering through the heavy velvet curtains of the Wolfe Hotel’s Presidential Suite. My mouth tasted like ash and sour metal — the unmistakable, sickening hangover of wolfsbane laced with silver dust.
But beneath the pain, a faint, phantom scent drifted across the pillows. Wild roses and rain.
My Inner Wolf let out a desperate, hopeful whine. Lina. She had come back. The coldness in her eyes last night was just a defense mechanism. I reached out, my heavy arm wrapping around the warm waist of the woman beside me.
“Lina,” I rasped, burying my face in her hair.
The woman shifted, letting out a soft, triumphant giggle. “You were so demanding last night, Alpha. Your wolf wouldn’t stop calling my name p>
The scent of wild roses vanished, violently suffocated by a cloying wave of jasmine perfume.
My blood turned to ice. I shoved myself backward, tangling in the expensive sheets. Kira Parrish lay there, the sheet draped loosely over her chest, a predatory, satisfied smirk playing on her lips.

Before Kira could answer, the heavy double doors of the suite crashed open.

A swarm of humans flooded into the room. The blinding flash of a dozen cameras erupted like strobe lights. The Howl paparazzi.
“Get out!” I roared, trying to summon my Alpha’s Command. But my voice cracked, weak and hollow. The silver dust had completely suppressed my Inner Wolf.
I scrambled to pull the duvet over us, but Kira didn’t hide. She let out a perfectly orchestrated, dramatic gasp, clutching the sheet just low enough to expose her bare shoulder. Right there, stark against her pale skin, was a fresh, bruised bite mark — one I had left in my drugged, hallucinating frenzy.
The cameras clicked furiously, immortalizing my ruin. I looked at Kira’s wide, theatrically horrified expression, but her eyes were gleaming with pure, unadulterated victory. I had walked straight into a viper’s nest.

The morning sun reflected off the cold marble island in the penthouse den at Blackstone Tower. I stood frozen, staring at the tablet Kain had just slid across the counter.
