“And stay away from that bastard pup of his!” Ferris spat, his face red with manic desperation.
A sudden, inexplicable spark of protective anger flared in my chest. The sheer malice he directed at an innocent child made me physically sick. “Get out of my office, Ferris,” I demanded, my voice trembling with disgust.
He stormed out, leaving me in suffocating silence. I rubbed my temples, trying to focus on the financial reports, when my cell phone rang.

I answered, fully prepared to reject whatever dinner invitation he was offering. But the voice on the other end wasn’t the composed politician. It was the raw, terrified roar of an Alpha father.

In the background, the shrill scream of medical monitors and the weak, agonizing wheeze of a child pierced my eardrums.
“Jaxon’s asthma — it’s a severe attack. He can’t breathe,” Grant’s voice cracked. “We’re rushing to Mt. Sinai. I didn’t know who else to call. Please p>
My logic instantly snapped. A primal, biological panic violently seized my chest, so intense it felt as though my own flesh and blood were suffocating. I didn’t question why a Lycan Senator was calling me. I simply dropped my gold Montblanc pen, grabbed my keys, and ran.
The tires of my Porsche shrieked against the asphalt of the FDR Drive. I drove like a madwoman, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs.
I sprinted through the sliding glass doors of the Mt. Sinai emergency entrance, ignoring the triage nurses as I bolted toward the VIP Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
At the end of the sterile, brightly lit hallway, I saw him. Grant looked entirely disheveled, his perfect political armor shattered.
When his eyes locked onto mine, I caught a fleeting, incredibly dark flash of complex victory in his gaze. But it vanished so quickly — instantly replaced by overwhelming relief — that I thought my panicked mind had imagined it.
He closed the distance between us and pulled me fiercely into his chest. His scent of rosemary and rain completely enveloped me, a heavy blanket over my trembling frame.
