In the driver’s seat, Henri’s Inner Wolf immediately sensed his Luna’s collapse. He swerved, bringing the massive Maybach to a jarring halt on the gravel shoulder of the highway.
“Luna?” Henri asked, his voice tight with panic as he passed a chilled bottle of Evian water through the partition.
I took it with trembling hands, pressing the cold plastic to my forehead. I couldn’t go back to the Penthouse Den. Not like this. If Kain saw me this broken — if he smelled my terror — his traumatized beast would tear the city apart trying to find the threat. And his suffocating ancient cedar scent would only push my spinning senses over the edge.
I needed to know what was happening to my failing body before I faced him.
I pulled the encrypted satellite phone from my pocket. My fingers shook so violently I could barely unlock the screen. I bypassed Kain’s contact and dialed the only person in the Pack I could trust to defy the King.

“Blake,” I gasped, my voice barely a whisper over the howling mountain wind outside the glass. “I need you to meet me at a private clinic on the Upper East Side. One that isn’t affiliated with Blackstone p>
“What? Addie, what’s wrong? Should I mind-link Kain p>
“No!” I choked out, gripping the phone like a lifeline. “Blake, I need you. And you cannot tell Kain. Do you understand? Not a word to my husband p>

The transition from the freezing mountain highway to the sterile, hidden examination suite on the Upper East Side was a blur of nausea and panic. I had ordered Henri to drop me at the private clinic’s alleyway, commanding his absolute silence with every ounce of Luna authority I could muster. Now I lay on a crisp hospital bed, a cold IV dripping fluids into my vein.
Blake paced the length of the room, the sharp click of her heels echoing her Inner Wolf’s frantic terror. She gripped her phone so tightly her knuckles had gone white. The screen glowed with Kain’s emergency contact.
“Addie, this is suicide,” Blake whispered, her voice trembling as she glanced at the heavy soundproof door. “If the Lycan King finds out I hid his Luna in a human clinic while she’s sick, he will burn Manhattan to the ground with me in it p>
