She tossed the phone onto the sofa and snarled through clenched teeth, “You give her an inch and she takes a mile. That bitch—has she forgotten who she is?”
Seeing Erica’s anger, Cathy added fuel to the fire, urging her to go to the salon and deal with Candace in person.
They arrived just as Candace was asking the makeup artist to begin. The chatting stopped at once, and the women all turned toward the entrance.
Candace followed their gaze. The moment she saw Cathy and Erica standing in the doorway, her face went pale.
“So you really are here! How dare you call yourself a virtuous wife?” Cathy shouted before Erica could even speak.
Cathy had tolerated Candace and her tricks more times than she could count, and she’d finally had enough. She never thought Candace would go this far—saying something like that to a reporter, where the whole world could hear it. No. The only way Rupert would end up with Candace was over Cathy’s dead body.
“What are you talking about, Cathy? Aren’t I getting engaged to Ron? Why are you being so rude to me?” Candace asked in a calm, wounded tone.
But Cathy didn’t care that they were in public. She shot vicious looks at the people around her, and the atmosphere instantly turned hostile.
Amy and the other women had spent plenty of time in nightclubs, and they knew how to handle themselves. They couldn’t just stand by and let Cathy insult them. One by one, they grabbed their bags and started swinging them, throwing them at Erica and Cathy.
Erica was a proud woman from an eminent family and would never lower herself to brawling in public. Besides, she couldn’t take on several women at once. In the end, she and Cathy had no choice but to leave the salon in humiliation.
Erica was so furious that she didn’t say a word the entire way home. Cathy had been struck by the swinging bags and ended up with a few red marks on her face. The more she thought about it, the more wronged—and vengeful—she felt. Candace was just a prostitute who used to sing in a bar. She had dated countless men before. How dare she fight Cathy like that?

Cathy rolled her eyes, completely uninterested in small talk. All she could think about was how to deal with Candace, and she needed Anakin for that, so she got straight to the point. “I need you to kidnap Candace. You know who she is, right?”
Anakin paused, then said carefully, “Of course I know who she is. She’s the one your cousin is getting engaged to. It’s all over the news. However…” He hesitated.
He had always liked Cathy, and he was always ready to do anything for her—just like he had during the Nina incident. But he was sick of their one-sided arrangement. He had been waiting for her to finally fall for him, all while he acted like a fool chasing after crumbs.
