On the other end of the line, Emalee was momentarily stunned by Ashton’s probing questions. She lapsed into silence, and her thoughts raced as she pieced together the possible scenarios. It didn’t take long before she made up her mind—Ashton meant nothing to her. Phillip, on the other hand, was the man she had longed for in the past two years. In the end, Emalee chose to stand with Phillip.
“I’m not sure what’s going on, but I trust Phillip is acting out of love for me. He’s probably just trying to secure better opportunities for us,” she replied.
Ashton realized Emalee had no idea what was actually happening, but her support for Phillip was unwavering. Her words struck him like a harsh winter breeze, chilling him to his very soul.
Before Ashton could muster a reply, Emalee’s commanding voice cut through the tension.
“Ashton, why don’t you leave the house for now? I’ll make sure to compensate you for any inconvenience p>
Her words left Ashton reeling with disappointment.
“Forget it. It’s just a house. If you want it, it’s yours. This way, we can be completely done with each other. As for your so-called compensation, I’m not desperate enough to need your charity,” he fired back.
At that very moment, Ashton saw Emalee for who she truly was. Any remaining affection he had for her completely dissolved.
Without waiting for Emalee’s response, Ashton ended the call and promptly blocked her number.
He glanced around the room, and his mind swirled with memories of the past two years spent with Emalee. Yet, now, he felt no attachment to those memories. Instead, he felt a profound sense of revulsion at what he once cherished.
Ashton caught the smug expressions on Phillip’s and Miriam’s faces and sighed deeply.

“If this is what Emalee wants, then I’ll pack up and leave,” Ashton declared icily. “But don’t think for a second that you’ll get away with this. I won’t cling to what isn’t mine. But anyone who tries to take what rightfully belongs to me will pay the price p>
To Phillip, Ashton’s words sounded like the desperate grievances of a defeated man. He laughed heartily, as if he had just heard the funniest joke, and his eyes flashed with malice.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and a group of burly men stormed in. Each was armed with a steel pipe or a machete. Their presence was thick with an intimidating aura of violence.
They stared at Ashton with mocking eyes, waiting for Phillip’s command to unleash their force on the seemingly defenseless man before them.
