Chapter 28:
Ashton followed Rosalie to her place.
He had expected that, as a member of the Campbell family, her home would be a sprawling manor or a luxurious standalone villa. However, the sight before him surprised him.
Instead of opulence, Ashton found himself in a cozy, stylish apartment. Though the Campbell family was well-known in Inewood, Rosalie had chosen a simpler lifestyle, which intrigued him.
The apartment, though small, was tastefully adorned. Rosalie’s love and pursuit of art were evident in the carefully chosen paintings that graced the walls. The throw pillows on the sofa were color-coordinated to perfection, lending both warmth and style to the space. Even the placement of a vase on the coffee table added a touch of elegance.
As Ashton took in his surroundings, he noted that there were no servants or maids. The only other person in the apartment was Rosalie’s sister, Selena, who was comfortably sitting on the sofa in the living room, deeply absorbed in a television show.
When the door opened, Selena’s gaze shifted from the TV screen to Rosalie and Ashton. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the latter. After all, he had saved her life.
With that, she leaped off the sofa and sprinted toward him.
“Ashton, welcome to our home!” she exclaimed with a radiant smile.
Ashton returned her enthusiastic greeting with a warm smile of his own and remarked, “It looks like you’ve recovered well. I’m relieved p>
Selena nodded eagerly, guided Ashton to the sofa, and offered him a plate of her favorite snacks.
“These are my favorites. My sister usually doesn’t let me eat too many, so I’ll share them with you. Thank you for saving me yesterday p>

Ashton felt flattered, overwhelmed by Selena’s fervor. But seeing the expectant look in her eyes, he graciously accepted the snacks.
Just then, Rosalie playfully smacked Selena on the head. “You little troublemaker. I’ve told you not to eat junk food while you’re still recovering. Were you sneaking snacks again while I was away?” Rosalie scolded.
Selena covered her head and stuck out her tongue. “That’s because you can’t cook. I got hungry, so I had to eat something p>
Rosalie’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment when her sister exposed her in front of Ashton. “I’m busy with work, so I don’t have time to learn how to cook. And you shouldn’t use that as an excuse. You’re too old to be eating snacks instead of meals p>
Ashton listened to the Campbell sisters’ playful banter and couldn’t help but laugh. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt such warmth of a family.
“Rosalie, if you want to learn how to cook, I can teach you. I’m not too bad in the kitchen,” Ashton teased.
Before Rosalie could respond, Selena jumped in excitedly. “Really? That’s awesome! Ashton, why don’t you just move in with us? Then you can cook for us every day p>
Rosalie’s face turned even redder, and she quickly pinched her sister’s cheek. “Selena, if you keep talking like that, you’ll scare him away p>
Rosalie stole a glance at Ashton, who was chuckling to himself and didn’t seem bothered. Relieved, she let out a small sigh.
They chatted for a while longer until Selena started yawning. Since it was getting late, Ashton politely excused himself and headed to the guest room to rest.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, gently warming Ashton’s face. He stretched his limbs and felt refreshed.
He was grateful for the Campbell sisters’ kindness and hospitality, so he decided to prepare a hearty breakfast to show his appreciation.
With that thought, he got up and started moving.
However, when he opened the door, he was met with an unexpected sight.
Rosalie, dressed in loose pajamas, sleepily stepped out of her room. The morning light wrapped around her, casting a soft glow that highlighted her figure through the thin fabric. The mix of her innocence and understated allure was stunning.
Even with his strong self-control, Ashton found himself captivated.
As Rosalie passed by the guest room, she caught sight of Ashton staring at her, his expression frozen in awe. Her body suddenly tensed. It was only then that it occurred to her that there was a man in the apartment.
Terrified, she squeezed her eyes shut, pretended not to see him, and hurriedly retreated to her room. In her rush, she bumped her head on the doorframe, which only added to her embarrassment and panic.
Ashton snapped out of his daze and chuckled softly, amused by this unexpectedly endearing side of Rosalie.
A while later, Rosalie reappeared, now dressed in a fresh outfit. Her cheeks were still slightly flushed, but she moved with a composed confidence as if nothing had happened.
Seeing her like this, Ashton felt a wave of relief.
Rosalie walked up to him and offered, “Ashton, I have some free time today. How about I help you find a new place to stay p>
