The next morning, Ashton slowly emerged from his dreams, groggy and disoriented. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and suddenly remembered that he was no longer residing with the James family. He yawned and toyed with the idea of catching a few more moments of sleep.
Just then, the tranquility was pierced by the cheerful chime of the doorbell.
Rosalie had mentioned yesterday that someone would be delivering an invitation. Ashton assumed this was it. He dressed quickly and swung the door open.
To his astonishment, it was Rosalie herself who greeted him. She wore a light pink dress that fluttered softly, casting her in an innocent, charming light. Her face was bright with a radiant smile, and her eyes sparkled with amusement as she looked at Ashton.

Ashton shook off his surprise and returned her smile. “Of course I am. I just didn’t expect you to show up yourself p>
Rosalie wasn’t actually upset. She grinned and handed him an elegant envelope edged with gold trim.
“After I got home yesterday, I checked the schedule and realized the concert is tonight. So, I thought I’d take you to pick out a suit and maybe a watch. That’s why I came over p>
Ashton was both amused and embarrassed. Just as he was about to decline politely, Rosalie ushered him out the door.
Compared to the chilliness of his ex-wife, Rosalie’s warmth was a welcome change that Ashton found invigorating.
“Is this really necessary? I have some clothes I can wear,” he protested awkwardly.

Rosalie chuckled. “Who says it’s not necessary? You’re my guest, and your appearance reflects on me. So, taking care of your image is important. Besides, with so many wealthy and influential people attending, I don’t want you to feel out of place p>
Ashton thought Rosalie’s reasoning over and decided not to resist any further. Without further ado, he followed Rosalie to a nearby mall.
Familiar with the layout, Rosalie navigated Ashton through various high-end stores and expertly selected clothes and accessories that complemented him perfectly. With her discerning eye, she chose outfits that not only suited him but also accentuated his natural charm, rendering him even more handsome. Together, they presented a picture-perfect image, like a couple lifted straight from a fairy tale.
The store clerk couldn’t help but compliment them. “Miss, you have exquisite taste. You and your boyfriend look like a match made in heaven p>
Rosalie frowned and shook her head. “Sorry, but there’s been a mistake. We’re just friends.” However, despite her words, a subtle smile played at the corners of her mouth.
Ashton, oblivious to Rosalie’s fleeting smile, felt a flush of embarrassment at the clerk’s assumption. To ease the awkwardness, he pretended to look at the price tags on the clothes.
Rosalie’s eyebrow arched, her face alight with amusement.
As they approached the register, she passed a bank card to Ashton. With a mischievous wink, she explained, “To keep you from being seen as someone relying on a wealthy woman, here’s my card. This card has the amount I promised for treating my sister. Use it for these clothes and the watch, and no one will call you a kept man p>
Seeing her resolute expression, Ashton realized he had no choice but to accept the card. After a short pause, he smiled and quipped, “So, you brought me shopping just to let me access my fee in advance. I was starting to enjoy the idea of being a kept man. But alas, I got excited for nothing p>
Ashton was clearly joking. He figured Rosalie was trying to make sure he didn’t feel any pressure, all while cleverly easing the awkwardness from earlier.
“No wonder you’re the heiress of the prestigious Campbell family. You’re always thoughtful and thorough,” Ashton added as he accepted the card. With that, he made his way to the counter to pay.
When he saw the balance on the card, Ashton was stunned. Considering Selena’s condition, he had expected a generous fee. To his surprise, the figure displayed was a staggering five million dollars!
