He looked around to make sure no one had noticed him. Then, he peered into the opening below and realized that the hidden door led not to a secret chamber, but to an underground pipe network connected to the sewer.
As he opened the iron door, Ashton’s face twisted in disgust as the foul stench from the sewer hit him with full force.
