Jett shot her a thumbs-up. “See, I knew you were the brave one.”
Nicole tried to walk leaning on him, but Jett let go of her hand before she could even get
close.
Then he walked ahead, leaving her behind. “Nicole, I’ll go ask Marley for some spray for your
ankle.”
Nicole was speechless.
‘If he’s really into me, shouldn’t he be all over me right now, trying to help and get close?
‘If I had any other choice, I wouldn’t even consider Jett,’ Nicole grumbled to herself.
He was just a pretty face with a powerful family. If he wasn’t rich and handsome, he’d be so dense no girl would ever go for him.
Nicole had no choice but to fake a limp as she made her way back to the courtyard.
She told Marley she was hurt and wouldn’t be able to join the next livestream.
Marley had already guessed Nicole wouldn’t be participating, so he didn’t even bat an eye.
But Nicole’s situation was different from Nicolas’s-Marley said she could withdraw, but she’d have to pay the penalty for breaking the contract.
Nicole just wanted to get out of this jinxed dump as fast as possible. She’d built up a nice little nest egg from her years with the Hammonds, and with Lucent Media backing the crew, she had no choice but to cough up the penalty fee.
After thinking it over, Nicole went to look for Jett.
“Jett. I told Marley I’m quitting the rest of the show,” she said.

She was convinced Jett would go with her.
On the way, she planned to make it clear she was open to the idea of him being her boyfriend.
That way, she figured Jett would have no choice but to stick by her side and protect her.
To her surprise, Jett just blinked and said, “Why would I leave with you? I haven’t quit the show yet.
“Nicole, come on, you gotta see things through to the end.”
He sighed again. “You’re the one bailing halfway, but now I’ve gotta finish this whole thing for you?”
He still hadn’t accomplished what he really came here for, so there was no way he was leaving
now.
He was honestly relieved to finally send Nicole, his personal baggage, packing.
Nicole’s mouth twitched. ‘Geez, you really don’t have to go out of your way for me,’ she thought.
She said, “But I’m leaving. If you stay here, you’ll be all by yourself.”
Jett shrugged. “It’s fine. If I really have to, I can team up with Caleb.
“I don’t really like him, but for your sake, I can put up with it.”
Nicole was about to lose it. ‘Seriously, Jett, you really don’t have to go out of your way for me, she thought, feeling more exasperated than ever.
Jett didn’t even let her finish before calling Marley over.
He asked Marley to book Nicole a flight for today and made sure someone would drive her to the airport.
Then he looked at Nicole expectantly, waiting for her to praise him. “Nicole, see? I’m taking such good care of you. Everything’s all set!”
Nicole stared at his annoyingly good-looking face, and honestly, she just wanted to claw at it.
She gave him a smile that was all teeth and no warmth. “Wow, thanks a lot.”
After a moment of thought, she decided, “Actually, I’ll just stick around and wait for you to finish the livestream. We can head back together.”

Honestly, she was terrified the Moore family would target her for revenge the second she got home.
Her mom had already told her the Hammond brothers were fed up with her, so she couldn’t count on them to protect her.
As for her stepfather, she still had no clue where he stood.
Honestly, hanging around Jett felt way safer than going it alone.
But Jett just shook his head. “The conditions here aren’t great, and with your ankle sprained, it’s not exactly the best place to recover.
“Besides, I’ve already talked to Marley. You should just head back today.
“It’s only a few more days of filming anyway. As soon as I’m done, I’ll come see you right away.”
Seeing how dead set he was on sending her home to recover, Nicole was seriously kicking herself for pretending to twist her ankle earlier.
She could only sigh and give in. “Alright, but promise you’ll come find me when you’re back.”
Jett nodded eagerly. “Of course! Who else would I wanna see but you?
“And don’t stress about Nicolas. I’ll try my best to get in touch with the miracle doctor.”
Nicole looked genuinely moved. “Jett, you really are the best.”
Honestly, when he wasn’t acting like a total blockhead, he could actually treat her pretty well.
Too bad he just wasn’t her type at all, but for the sake of her future, she figured she’d have to settle for him.
