Chapter 117
Lucy hadn’t walked far before she encountered a business partner.
She immediately switched to fluent French to converse with them. The usual coldness on her face faded, replaced by a faint smile, softening her entire aura.
On the other side, Kingsley and Jules chatted briefly before he turned to leave with Peter.
Hearing Lucy’s authentic French, he wasn’t surprised he had long discovered she hid too many secrets. The lively, cheerful, career-ambivalent appearance from before was all fake; the decisive career woman before him now was the reality.
Even her past obedience now seemed like a carefully crafted mask.
Peter suddenly nudged Kingsley with his elbow, raising an eyebrow as he suggested, “I’m going to go say hi to your ex-wife p>
Kingsley glanced at him and stated with certainty, “She won’t give you the time of day p>
“Just need thick skin,” Peter grinned, nonchalant. “Being rejected by a beauty is nothing shameful p>
Kingsley didn’t bother to respond. Peter strode toward Lucy on his long legs. Holding a glass of red wine, he spoke familiarly. “Hi, beautiful, we meet again.” Lucy glanced up at him, her tone distant. “Sorry, you have the wrong person p>
“I never mistake a beauty,” Peter said, smiling and shaking his wine glass, his tone deliberately flirtatious.
Lucy curled her lips into a sneer and stated firmly, “You’re hitting on the wrong person-I like women p>
With that, holding her wine glass, she turned and walked away with elegant steps, not giving Peter another glance.
Peter was left speechless on the spot, opening and closing his mouth without uttering a word.
In his mind, however, he began to speculate, convinced that Kingsley’s divorce was because his ex-wife was a lesbian.
He quickly chased back to Kingsley, his tone certain and curious. “Your wife is gay, right? Is that why you divorced p>
Kingsley didn’t even lift his eyelids. He snorted a single word through his nose, full of mockery: “Idiot p>
With that, he downed his red wine in one gulp and turned to walk out of the venue.
Peter was stunned for two seconds before reacting, complaining at his back, “Kingsley, why are you insulting me p>
Kingsley walked out of the banquet hall. Just as he took out a pack of cigarettes to light up, a familiar, gentle female voice came from in front of him. “I’ll be back in a bit. You stay with him for now p>
The person on the other end said something, and a few seconds later, that voice spoke again, sounding casual. “Mm, no need to pick me up. I didn’t drink much. Hanging up now p>
Just as Lucy ended the call, she heard the *click* of a lighter.
She turned and collided with Kingsley’s bottomless gaze. She sneered immediately and stepped to walk around him.
“Jules has someone he likes,” he said suddenly.
Lucy didn’t pause, didn’t even lift an eyelid, clearly too lazy to respond.
But he was relentless, adding, “When did you start liking women? How come I didn’t know p>
At this, Lucy finally looked back, the mockery in her eyes almost overflowing. “Kingsley, it’s best if we don’t speak to each other p>
After saying that, she walked away decisively in her high heels, heading straight back to the party.
She quickly sent a message to Jules: [I’m leaving first p>
Meanwhile, Kingsley, leaning outside smoking, had an obscure expression. He simply inhaled deeply on his cigarette.
He smoked two in a row and stood outside for a long time. Once the smell of smoke
on him had mostly dissipated, he walked toward the banquet hall.
Peter spotted him immediately and came over to tease, “Yo, went out for a quick bite? Why do you smell faintly of perfume p>
Kingsley glared at him, his tone filled with disgust. “You think everyone is as desperate as you p>
“Kingsley, you’re ruining my reputation!” Peter handed him a glass of wine, pretending to be offended.
Kingsley took a sip and retorted flatly, “Do you have a reputation to speak of p>
Peter immediately put on a wounded look. “I can’t talk to you anymore. Let’s stop here p>
As soon as he finished, he couldn’t help laughing and leaned in to probe, “Şeriously, why exactly did you and your ex-wife divorce? I’m so curious p>
Kingsley glanced at him, his tone indifferent. “If you’re curious, go ask her yourself p>
“She left ages ago,” Peter spread his hands. “And even if she hadn’t, she might not tell me if I asked p>
Kingsley shoved his empty glass into Peter’s hand and dropped two words: “I’m leaving p>
