That night, Jane received a message from Raymond.
The abortion was scheduled for the next morning, deliberately timed to avoid
Kingsley.
In the living room, Lucy sat on the sofa playing with one-year-old Molly.
Jane stood still, watching the heartwarming scene, suddenly losing the courage to bring up tomorrow’s appointment.
Molly could only say simple words, but Lucy was patiently teaching her to say “Godmother.” The little girl, however, kept babbling in a milky voice, “Ma… Mama p>
Every gentle call made Lucy want to cry. She couldn’t help but think of the little life in her own belly, destined to disappear.
Her chest felt blocked, stuffy and painful.
After a while, Molly got sleepy, rubbing her eyes and whimpering, “Ma… Mama hug p>
Lucy looked at Jane with a smile, helpless yet adoring. “I’m not trying to steal your thunder, but our baby Molly just can’t say ‘Godmother’ yet p>
Jane smiled faintly. “It’s fine.” She walked over, gently taking Molly into her arms to rock her to sleep.
As the little one settled down, Jane’s phone began vibrating incessantly. It was Thurston sending message after message.
Earlier that afternoon, Jane had sent some of his clothes to his office with a message: [Don’t you dare come back until I’ve cooled down p>
He was likely still stuck at the office, reduced to begging for forgiveness via text.
Jane held the sleeping Molly, listening to the constant buzzing, her heavy mood turning irritable. She picked up the phone and typed: [One more text and we’re filing for divorce tomorrow afternoon p>
As she sent it, she silenced the phone and looked back down at Molly’s sleeping face, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
When Thurston saw that text, he felt like his world just ended. His Jane had never treated him like this.
A wave of pure anger hit him. His jaw clenched as he imagined finding Kingsley and smashing his face in.
He dialed Kingsley’s number without hesitation, but the robotic voice replied: “The number you have dialed is not in service p>
Thurston slammed the phone down and dialed Shane instead. “Where is Kingsley? His phone isn’t connecting p>
Shane checked the time. “Mr. Sherwood just boarded his flight p>
“When he lands, I’m settling this score! Bastard!” Thurston muttered
through gritted teeth and hungurel
He took a deep breath and sent
another text tax
ignoring her
threat. Try to schedule Lucy’s
surgery before 10 AM. Kingsley
lands after 10 p>
Jane, having just settled Molly, saw the message and replied with four words: [None of your business p>
She set the phone aside and looked
at Lucy, who was staring blankly from the sofa. She walked over
patted her shoulder, and asked gently, “Lucy, have you made up youṛ mind p>
Lucy didn’t speak. Instead, she suddenly reached out and hugged Jane, resting her
head on her shoulder. After a long silence, she choked out two muffled words: “Do
it p>
Jane knew the struggle in her heart. She comforted her softly, “If you want to keep it,
I’ll help you. Whatever you decide, I’m with you p>
Lucy forced a smile, her voice trembling slightly. “Okay p>
Early the next morning, Jane took Lucy to the hospital, shaking off the tails following them en route.
After the tests were done and Lucy lay on the gurney, her fingers dug into the sheets.
