But now, she had to end it with her own hands. Her heart felt clenched by an invisible fist, hurting so much she could barely breathe.
Jane, unable to let her go alone, put on a gown and stayed by her side.
As the operating room doors slid shut, cutting off the light from outside, Lucy’s heart leapt into her throat. Her grip on the sheets tightened.
“Let’s begin,” the chief doctor’s voice rang out in the quiet room, professionally detached.
The words were like a needle piercing Lucy’s forced calm
Suddenly, she wavered.
Why give up? She could raise this child herself.
She could leave, go somewhere where no one knew her, start over abroad. Even if
it was hard, as long as she was with her baby, it would be worth it!
When the cold instrument touched her, the chill shot through her nerves. Lucy couldn’t hold it back anymore.
Her voice broke into a sob, begging, “I’m not doing it… I don’t want to do it p>
An instant relief washed over Jane at those words. She immediately told the doctor, “We’re stopping p>
She whispered instructions to the doctor, who nodded understandingly and quietly arranged the next steps with the staff.
Lucy sat up and hugged Jane, the tears she had held back for so long finally bursting forth, hot and heavy on Jane’s shoulder. “Jane, I want to keep it she choked out, her voice broken but stubborn. “Maybe I’m selfish, but I don’t… I don’t want to lose this baby. I don’t want to regret it p>
“Then keep it.” Jane patted her back, her voice gentle but firm. “Leave the rest to me. Don’t worry about anything. Just be a happy expecting mom p>
Though the operating room lights shone as bright as ever, their coldness seemed to fade.
Lucy buried her face in Jane’s neck, her body shaking with sobs, yet beneath that stubborn pride, a fragile warmth began to take root.
Half an hour later, Lucy was sent to the observation room as per protocol.
When Shane finally traced their location, he was too late.
Kingsley received Shane’s call the moment he stepped off the plane.
Hearing the report, he roared, “Shane, if you can’t handle being a special assistant, give the job to someone else p>
He slammed the phone down, the
sharp glint in his eyes instantly covered by a layer of ash. Taking a deep breath, he dialed Thurston. The call connected instantly, and Thurston’s furious shout exploded from the speaker.
“Jerk, you have the nerve to call? You screwed me over! It’s not enough that your home is wrecked, you have to drag mine down too? You wait, this isn’t over p>
Kingsley’s tone was as cold as ice, every word an interrogation. “Who is the jerk here? You and your wife. killed my baby that is a life! It’s gone, just like that. Do you deserve
to be called human p>
Thurston, though aware the surgery was a ruse, was still startled to hear the word “gone p>
But he quickly fired back. “Don’t blame others! You did this to yourself! If you hadn’t pulled your stunts, would any of this have happened? You asked for it! Don’t try to pin the blame on us p>
A chill ran down Thurston’s spine-he was realizing just how terrifying women could be when pushed. They really didn’t hold back.
Then, a wave of fear washed over him. He was terrified that his Jane might one day steel her heart and divorce him, ending his hard-earned happiness.
On the other end, Kingsley gripped his phone, his knuckles white, his voice bone- chilling. “You took her away. We will settle this debt slowly p>
“Settle it then! Thurston was full of pent-up rage. He was living under a suspended sentence, afraid his wife would leave him any second.
