Chapter 58

At noon, just as the lunch engagement ended and Kingsley got into the back seat, his phone vibrated.

The name “Ms. Talmadge” lit up the screen. He swiped to answer, and Susan’s smooth yet demanding voice came through the receiver.

“Kingsley, raise the limit on my credit card p>

“Did you finish spending Dad’s salary already? It hasn’t been in the account that long p>

Kingsley loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt with careless fingers. His tone held a hint of impatience. “Ms. Talmadge, does money grow on trees p>

“What’s wrong with me spending a little money?” Susan’s voice instantly turned colder, spiked with barbs. “You make money and don’t spend it—saving it for Joyce Mason to spend p>

“I earn the money, so I can spend on whoever I want p>

Kingsley leaned back against the seat, closing his eyes, his tone so flat it was devoid of emotion. “I’ll have someone adjust the limit later. It’s only the middle of the month; pace yourself p>

Susan didn’t respond to that. Remembering the diamond necklace Joyce had

posted on her social media, she changed the subject.

“I’ve had my eye on an emerald necklace recently. Bid on it for me. Buying it through the Sherwood Group can count as a charity write-off anyway p>

“You’ve certainly calculated that well.” Kingsley chuckled low, the sound full of chill. “I’m hanging up p>

“I’m your mother! I can’t even buy a necklace p>

Susan’s voice was still echoing in the receiver when Kingsley pressed the end call button. He turned to Shane in the passenger seat.

“Raise her credit limit to a hundred thousand, and contact her about the necklace she wants p>

“Yes, Mr. Sherwood.” Shane replied. He immediately dialed the bank and efficiently handled the limit increase.

After hanging up, he stole a glance at the back seat. Kingsley was resting with his eyes closed again, the lines of his profile hard and cold, radiating alienation.

Shane couldn’t help but feel a wave of sympathy: “It’s always about money with Mrs. Sherwood. She never thinks to ask if Mr. Sherwood is tired or needs to rest. On the other hand, Mr. Sherwood isn’t close to this ‘mother’ either-he’s not nearly as at ease with her as he is with his grandmother p>

After a twenty-minute rest, Kingsley slowly opened his eyes.

He looked through the window, and the car had arrived downstairs at the company. His gaze swept, gazeswept

inadvertently across the corner café and caught sight of that familiar purple figure.

“What time is the appointment with her?” he asked, his voice rasping slightly from sleep.

Shane reacted instantly, turning his head. “It’s 3:30 PM p>

“Tell her she doesn’t need to wait for the original time. Once the plans are done, come directly to the company p>

Kingsley ordered, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the edge of his phone.

“Understood.” Shane acknowledged and immediately typed out a message.

Inside the café, Emma received the message and immediately leaned over to Lucy, who was still correcting blueprints.

“Lucy, Shane messaged. He said once you finish the revisions, head straight to Sherwood Group. No need to wait for the 3:30 appointment p>

Lucy’s hand paused on the mouse. She looked up and murmured, “Okay p>

With that, her focus returned to the design on the screen.

Emma watched Lucy working from morning till noon without a break

and couldn’t help urging t

“Lucyaz

take a break. Your eyes won’t be

like that p>

Lucy did feel a swelling pain in her eyes, but her mind was filled with finishing the drafts. Hearing this, she finally stopped moving the mouse.

She looked out the window into the distance. Her gaze swept over a certain direction, and the corner of her mouth suddenly hooked into an extremely faint, fleeting sneer.

She signaled the waiter, ordered two lattes, and turned to Emma. “When we’re done today, I plan to walk around the area and buy some things for Seven. Do you want to come p>

“Sure!” Emma nodded enthusiastically, her eyes lighting up at the mention of shopping.

The coffee arrived quickly. Lucy stirred it gently with a small spoon and said softly, “The schedule is too tight this time, otherwise I’d take you for a proper tour around here p>

“It’s okay, Lucy Emma waved her

hand and pulled out her phone to scroll through her gallery. “I’ve already explored a lot of places on my owif trust missed out on tickets to the Royal Palace, which is a pity next time I get a chance, I definitely want to go take photos p>
