The next morning, the headlines across every major media outlet were identical: Harland Lynwood, General Manager of The Lynwood Group, had been arrested by police on suspicion of homicide, with irrefutable evidence cited.
The Lynwood Group’s stock, which had just shown signs of recovery, plummeted instantly, crashing like an unstoppable avalanche.
After Harland was taken away, his current wife, Irma, immediately rushed to The Lynwood Group’s headquarters, attempting to stabilize the shareholders’ fraying nerves.
But the shareholders were shrewd; seeing the situation collapse, they were already calculating their exit strategies.
At her wit’s end, Irma finally played her trump card-Kingsley—which barely managed to bring a semblance of order to the chaos.
Emerging from the conference room, she immediately called Lucy. The repeated “out of service” notification from the receiver only fueled her anxiety. Unable to reach Lucy, Irma took a deep breath and dialed Kingsley’s number.

“Your father-in-law was taken away this morning. There must be some misunderstanding,” Irma said carefully.
She knew Kingsley’s character all too well. In all the three years he’d been married to Lucy, he could barely be bothered to visit the Lynwood home, and he had never once called Harland “Dad p>
Yet, over the years, the Lynwood Group had enjoyed considerable benefits simply by trading on the title of “the Sherwood Group’s in-laws.” Many people showed the Lynwood Group respect based on Kingsley’s name alone.
She bit the bullet and pleaded, “You have connections. Could you… pull some strings? He is Lucy’s father, after all p>
“I can’t help you,” Kingsley rejected flatly, uninterested in entertaining her.

Before she could respond, the line went dead.
Moments later, Irma discovered she had been blocked.
Kingsley had just finished dealing with work when Paula called. He slid the screen to answer, and Paula’s voice came through, trying to sound calm.
“Mr. Sherwood, since yesterday evening, Mrs. Sherwood has refused all food and water. I’m seriously concerned about her health if this continues p>
Kingsley leaned back in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose, his tone carrying a reprimand. “Paula, are you losing your memory? What did say last night? Did tell yout get a doctor just for show
“The doctor has already administered an IV drip,” Paula whispered from the other

She took a deep breath and forced herself to continue. “Mrs. Sherwood has lost her spark completely. This… isn’t good for the baby p>
Thinking of the once vibrant and cheerful young woman who now looked like a broken doll with the
soul sucked out of her Paula felt a

“Paula, you’re overstepping,” Kingsley’s voice dropped, his brow furrowing deeply.

“Whether the baby is affected is not
your concern,” he enunciated every word, his voice heavy with, unquestionable authority
