Kingsley’s cheek burned with a stinging heat. Lucy had put her full weight behind that slap, leaving a dark, spreading stain on the fabric of his left sleeve where she had struck him.
Lucy turned and descended the stairs, leaving without a backward glance.
Kingsley didn’t chase after her. Instead, he walked out of the office and headed straight for the basement.
In the dim light of the basement, a man was kneeling on the floor, his neck stiff with defiance, refusing to talk.
Kingsley took the gun Xavier handed him. Without a second of hesitation, he pulled the trigger. The bullet tore through the man’s palm.
A bloodcurdling scream instantly filled the room, yet the man, trembling in agony, still refused to confess.
Ignoring the throbbing pain in his own arm, Kingsley raised his hand to cock the gun again. He pressed the cold muzzle against the man’s other hand. “Since you’re so tight-lipped and enjoy smashing things, losing the use of both hands seems appropriate. It saves me the trouble p>
That sentence finally shattered the man’s defenses. Shaking violently, he spilled everything, detailing every incident one by one.
Kingsley handed the gun back to Xavier. His gaze swept over the manager standing nearby as he uttered a few cold words: “Root them out completely p>
“Got it,” the manager responded, his tone devoid of hesitation.
When Kingsley had first entered, Xavier had noticed the redness on his cheek and the faint, metallic scent of blood lingering in the air. He didn’t need to guess-the wound on Kingsley’s shoulder had torn open again.
He quickly followed Kingsley, unable to hide the worry in his voice.
“Mr. Sherwood, the doctor emphasized that the wound cannot be reopened repeatedly, or the healing process will be significantly delayed p>
“I know. It won’t kill me.” Kingsley strode out of the casino, his long legs covering ground quickly. Without stopping, he asked, “Is the ointment in the car p>
“Yes, it is,” Xavier replied, though he sighed inwardly.
The ointment developed by Dr. Sterling seemed to have become Mr. Sherwood’s custom-made
“face-saver.” Since arriving in Switzerland, who knew how many slaps he’d taken? And with no progress in winning his wife back,.. Xavier Shuddered to think how many more beatings that face would have to endure.
Just as they got into the car, before Kingsley could even unscrew the cap of the ointment, Shane called.
He slid his finger across the screen to answer.
“Mr. Sherwood, Mr. Winston
Sherwood and Ms. Talmadge have signed the divorce agreement. The divorce decree has been issued,” Shane’s voice came through the receiver.
Kingsley raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of confusion in his expression. “Didn’t Winston say it would take some time before he could return p>
“Ms. Talmadge made numerous calls to rush him. As soon as the paperwork was finalized, Mr.

Winston Sherwood immediately left for another business trip,” Shane reported dutifully.
Kingsley gave a noncommittal hum, his tone ripple-free. “Divorce is for the best. No one will be upsetting the old lady anymore p>
“Also,” Shane added, “regarding the Talmadge family… Old Mr. Talmadge was furious when he heard the news. He declared that he no longer has a daughter p>
Kingsley’s eyes remained calm as he simply said, “Alright. Bye p>
By the blink of an eye, the end of the year was approaching. A mountain of work had piled up back home, forcing Kingsley to return.
The road to winning his wife back had seen zero progress; the only thing he had gained was a few more slaps to the face.
What infuriated him even more was that the relationship between Jules Holt and Lucy seemed to be getting closer right under his nose.
Several times, he was so angry he wanted to leak Jules’s relationship status to the Holt family, but the moment he thought of Lucy, he ultimately held back.
