Kingsley leaned back against the sofa, glaring at the man in his bed. “Get the hell out of here tomorrow night!” he gritted out.
“Fine,” Thurston mumbled, his voice heavy with sleep. “I wouldn’t stay here tomorrow night even if you begged me p>
The next morning, Lucy had just left the cemetery with Seven. They hadn’t driven far when her phone rang. It was the hospital.
After listening to what the caller had to say, Lucy’s tone remained calm as she found Shane’s number and dialed it.
The moment the call connected, Lucy spoke first, a hint of mockery in her voice. “Your account ran out of funds? Did the Sherwood Group go bankrupt p>
Shane paused before rushing through his explanation, his voice laced with obvious guilt. “Miss Lynwood, you said you would cover the medical bills. Mr. Sherwood has a concussion and needs to stay for observation. I paid for yesterday’s expenses out of my own pocket p>
Lucy took a deep breath, suppressing her annoyance. “I’ll transfer the money to you. Please pay it on my behalf p>
Shane sneaked a glance at Kingsley, who was still resting in the ward, and braced himself to continue. “Miss Lynwood, I had a family emergency today and I’m not at the hospital right now. Do you think you could come and pay it yourself? The doctor already stopped Mr. Sherwood’s medication this morning. If the bill isn’t settled, the hospital might discharge him p>
Hearing this, Lucy’s tone grew colder. “I don’t have time. If they kick him out, it’ll save me some money, which sounds great. He can either pay for it himself and I’ll reimburse him later, or he can pack up and leave p>
With that, she hung up, completely cutting Shane off.
Shane lowered his phone and didn’t waste another second, walking straight out of the ward to settle the bill.
Kingsley finally woke up close to noon. He glanced at the IV needle in the back of his hand and asked, “Has the bill been paid p>
“It has. I covered it first,” Shane hurried forward to explain. “Miss Lynwood said to put it on my tab for now, and she’ll reimburse me later p>
Kingsley gave a dismissive hum and didn’t ask further.
Shane hesitated before adding, “elder Mrs. Sherwood has transferred part of her assets to the young master. She already had the transfer documents delivered to Miss Lynwood p>
“Did they meet?” Kingsley looked up.
“No,” Shane reported truthfully. “She only had the documents delivered without passing on any messages p>
“Do you think Lucy will take Seven to see my grandmother?” Kingsley gently tapped his fingers against the edge of the bed. After a moment of silence he asked, “Does she know about my injury?
“Miss Lynwood probably won’t.” Shane pointed to the fruit basket on the nightstand “She knows and Mr. Winston erwood knows toote came to see you this morning, but you were resting, so we didn’t wake you. He already left town today p>
Kingsley frowned, clearly unwilling to waste any more time in the hospital. “Right.
Go ask the doctor when I can be discharged p>
“Understood,” Shane replied, turning and walking out of the ward.
Right after Shane left, Ethan pushed the door open, carrying an elegantly packaged fruit basket.
Kingsley shot him a glance, his tone laced with coldness. “What are you doing here p>
“To see you, obviously,” Ethan said. He picked up the medical chart from the foot of the bed casually flipping through the notes before changing the subject. “You aren’t going to press charges against Wyatt right? We already disciplined him.
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone, opened a photo of Wyatt Sterling’s injuries, and shoved it in front of Kingsley.
Kingsley took one look before turning his gaze away. His tone was unrelenting. “I won’t go after him. But as for you, I’ll deal with you sooner or later p>
