In the afternoon, Kingsley was discussing work with the general manager in his office when the internal line on his desk suddenly rang.
He picked up the receiver, and Shane’s voice came through. “Mr. Sherwood, Miss Mason is in the lobby. She says she made dessert for you p>
“Okay. Tell her to leave it at the front desk,” Kingsley replied flatly without looking up.
Shane paused on the other end before adding, “Miss Mason said she has something she wants to say to you in person p>
Kingsley’s finger paused on the document. He glanced up at the general manager across from him before speaking in a low voice. “Well, let her come up. Take her to the reception room p>
“Yes, Mr. Sherwood,” Shane acknowledged and hung up.
Twenty minutes later, the general manager walked out of the office.
Shane quickly stepped forward, knocked lightly on the door, and entered. He reminded Kingsley in a low voice, “Mr. Sherwood, Miss Mason has been waiting in the reception room for twenty minutes p>
Kingsley, who was organizing the files in his hand, looked up at him and simply said, “I know p>
Five minutes later, Kingsley walked into the reception room.
Inside, Joyce was sitting on the sofa looking down at her phone. Her white dress accentuated her slender, somewhat frail figure.
After two years of recovery, her complexion was much better, but she still carried a delicate air that easily evoked a desire to protect.
She looked up at the sound of the door. Her eyes met Kingsley’s with gentle warmth. “Kingsley, are you free now?” she asked, her tone light and cheerful.
Kingsley glanced at her indifferently, gave a grunt of acknowledgment, and sat on the sofa opposite her. His fingers tapped the armrest, clearly waiting for her to speak first.
Seeing this, Joyce hurriedly pushed the dessert box beside her toward him, anticipation in her eyes. “I learned to make this from an online tutorial. I know it’s your favorite. Will you try it p>

Kingsley didn’t answer. He just tapped his finger lightly on the armrest, the dull sound distinct in the quiet room.
Joyce’s eyes instantly turned red, tears swimming in them. She
