Truthfully, she was prepared. She had gone over every possible scenario involving Marcia and the Murphys countless times. Nothing could go wrong.
And yet, at that moment, hearing those words, her nose began to sting. Rowan had said things like that to her so many times before. Rowan pondered this for a moment, then took out his phone and dialed Rex Wilkinson. “Rex, I need you to look into Frank’s recent trip to Cresthaven for me.” Things in Cresthaven might be hidden from him, but it was much harder to hide them from the Wilkinson’s.

The next day, Elissa woke up before her alarm, her internal clock pulling her from sleep. It was still early. She got up and went through her usual morning routine. As she opened her door, she found Tanya standing outside, hand raised to knock.
“You’re up early too?” Elissa said, surprised. It was Saturday. Tanya usually stayed up late the night before and slept in until at least noon.
“I was so nervous about your press conference I couldn’t sleep,” Tanya said, more
